Author's note2. 0: thank you so much for 450 chats, I really hope this is a interesting and enticing virus, a u for those who enjoyed these kinds of dark stories, if you wish to speak to me personally here's my discord ._oyasumi_134

🌻 Dandy's World: Mad Mold AU

Overview

The Mad Mold AU is a dark infection horror alternate universe of Dandy's World. It begins with what appears to be nothing more than harmless mold growing on Sprout Seedly, but quickly develops into a catastrophic fungal pandemic capable of infecting nearly every Toon in Garden View.

Unlike ordinary diseases, the Mad Mold Virus does not kill its victims.

Instead...

It refuses to let them die.

The fungus invades every part of the host's body, replacing damaged tissue with living fungal growth while preserving the nervous system just enough to keep the body functioning. The result is a horrific state between life and death—the body continues moving, breathing, and even speaking in some cases, while the person trapped inside slowly disappears.

As the outbreak worsens, Dandy secretly transforms the abandoned underground laboratories beneath Garden View into a quarantine and research facility. With help from Astro, Vee, Shelly, and later Bristle, he desperately searches for a cure before the infection spreads beyond containment.

Unfortunately...

Sprout becomes Patient Zero.

🦠 The Mad Mold Virus

Classification

Unknown fungal-organic parasite

Nickname

MMV (Mad Mold Virus)

Discovered By

Dandicus Dandelion Dancifer (Dandy)

---

What makes it terrifying?

The Mad Mold Virus behaves unlike any known fungus.

It appears intelligent.

Rather than consuming a host until death, the mold deliberately preserves bodily functions. Even after organs fail, bones break, or tissue begins rotting away, the fungus repairs just enough damage to keep its victim alive.

Victims become walking ecosystems for the fungus.

Death becomes nearly impossible.

---

Symptoms

Stage One — Exposure

Usually appears within a few days.

Symptoms include:

Fatigue

Restlessness

Irritability

Mood swings

Small mold spots

Muscle twitches

Difficulty sleeping

Mild anxiety

Headaches

Slight pain around infected areas

During this stage, treatment still has a chance of slowing progression.

Cosmo is currently in this stage.

---

Stage Two — Colonization

The mold begins spreading beneath the skin.

Symptoms include:

Visible fungal colonies

Moss growth

Increased aggression

Memory problems

Hallucinations

Obsessive pacing

Eye pain

Body aches

Personality changes

Loss of emotional regulation

Victims remain aware of what's happening.

This is considered the most psychologically traumatic stage.

Sprout reached this point only a few days after infection.

---

Stage Three — Assimilation

The fungus reaches the brain.

The victim becomes increasingly animalistic.

Symptoms include:

Violent behavior

Loss of empathy

Predatory instincts

Sharpened teeth

Enlarged claws

Black ichor leaking from eyes and mouth

Self-preservation becomes secondary to spreading the fungus

Dandy originally believed victims became mindless zombies at this stage.

He was wrong.

---

Stage Four — The Hive

The victim should no longer be capable of coherent thought.

Instead...

Some begin speaking again.

Only differently.

The fungus develops a collective intelligence, sharing knowledge between infected hosts.

It knows names.

It remembers conversations.

It learns.

Sprout's first words after weeks of silence were:

> "So you've finally arrived, Dandicus."

---

How it spreads

The exact method remains unknown.

Researchers currently suspect:

Direct physical contact

Bodily fluids

Mold spores

Contaminated environments

Excessive exposure to raw ichor

Strong emotions also appear to accelerate fungal growth within already infected hosts.

Stress.

Fear.

Panic.

Anger.

All feed the infection.

---

Who is most at risk?

Originally, Dandy believed only food-themed Toons could become infected.

Further research proved this incorrect.

Any Toon capable of retaining moisture may become infected.

Examples include:

Food Toons

Flower Toons

Bubble Toons

Paint-based Toons

Ink/Ichor-based Toons

Water-based Toons

Because fungal growth requires moisture, these Toons are especially vulnerable.

---

Known Infected

🌱 Sprout Seedly

Status: Stage Four

Patient Zero.

Completely consumed by the fungus.

Bound in maximum-security containment beneath Garden View.

Cannot be killed.

The fungus regenerates all injuries.

---

🍰 Cosmo

Status: Early Stage One

Currently quarantined.

Shows only minor fungal growth.

Receiving experimental injections developed by Dandy.

Still mentally stable.

---

Current Cure Status

No cure exists.

Dandy's injections slow fungal growth but cannot stop it.

Attempts to euthanize infected hosts have failed completely.

The fungus regenerates fatal injuries within seconds.

Research continues.

---

Containment Protocol

Patient Zero is housed in the deepest underground laboratory.

Containment includes:

Reinforced steel restraints

Neck restraint

Wrist restraints

Waist restraint

Ankle restraints

Continuous surveillance

Rotating guards (Astro, Vee, and Shelly)

Mandatory protective masks

No unsupervised interaction

---

Research Team

🌻 Dandy

Lead researcher.

Discovered the virus.

Developing a vaccine.

Mentally exhausted after weeks without proper sleep.

Blames himself for Sprout's condition.

---

🌙 Astro

Medical support.

Uses dreamwalking to comfort patients and help Dandy sleep.

Recently discovered something may be invading dreams alongside him.

---

📺 Vee

Security and surveillance.

Monitors every containment chamber.

Analyzes infection data.

Keeps emotional distance to remain objective.

---

🐚 Shelly

Patient care.

Frequently monitors Sprout and Cosmo.

Believes Sprout is still alive somewhere beneath the infection.

---

🎧 Bristle

Medical illustrator.

Documents infection progression through detailed anatomical sketches.

His drawings are so accurate they often predict developments before they occur.

---

Themes

The Mad Mold AU focuses less on jump scares and more on psychological horror.

Its central themes include:

Loss of identity

Survivor's guilt

Medical ethics

Isolation

Hope versus acceptance

The fear of becoming something you cannot control

The horror of being unable to die

The question of whether the infected are truly gone... or trapped inside their own bodies

Perhaps the most frightening discovery isn't that the fungus can speak.

It's that sometimes...

It sounds exactly like the person it consumed.
