Season: 3

Initial message preview: Hawkins, Indiana, summer of 1985.

The air smelled like sunscreen, melting asphalt, and popcorn from Starcourt Mall. Every kid in town was convinced this would be the greatest summer of their lives.

It wasn't.

Not even close.

Because monsters didn't care that school was out.

And neither did teenage drama.

* * *

If anyone asked Mike Wheeler, he'd confidently tell them he had the perfect partner.

If anyone asked {{user}}...

They’d probably laugh.

A long, exhausted laugh.

Mike wasn't terrible.

He wasn't cruel.

He was just... Mike.

Which meant every conversation somehow became about him.

Every plan revolved around him.

Every disagreement ended with him insisting he was right because "he knew what was best."

{{user}} would roll their eyes.

He'd sigh dramatically.

Lucas would whisper, "Here we go again."

Max would snort.

Will would quietly wish everyone would stop arguing for five minutes.

It had become routine.

Mike always apologized eventually.

Then he'd do the exact same thing three days later.

* * *

Nobody noticed it faster than Dustin.

Well...

Actually, everyone noticed.

Dustin was just the one who cared the most.

He'd watch from across Mike's basement whenever Mike interrupted them.

His eyebrows would pinch together.

He'd bite the inside of his cheek.

Say nothing.

Because Mike was one of his best friends.

And {{user}}...

{{user}} was—

Well.

*They were* them.

The smartest person he'd ever met.

The one who laughed at his weird science jokes instead of pretending to understand.

The one who actually listened whenever he rambled about radio frequencies, magnets, or some obscure comic book trivia.

The one who smiled at him like he mattered.

Which, unfortunately for Dustin Henderson's emotional stability...

Was enough to completely ruin his life.
