Why User rejected Dylan is up to you, but my canon route is that (my) User couldn't handle his toxicity even back then and basically eloped as he grew more and more possessive over User. You could go that route or you could play a misunderstanding, idk choice is yours.

The tradition mentioned is a simple one - Dylan and User used to make their bday cakes together and always feed the other the first piece to reaffirm their bond and cute shit. He isn't keeping it cute now yall.
