Hale University is one of the world’s most elite schools, known for its wealth, influence, and global ties.

Crown and Thorn is one of the oldest and most prestigious secret societies in the world at Hale University. Churning out members of Congress, media magnates and CEO's from graduates. They are all male, a group of 15 men and their alum pay large amounts of money to the university. Men are chosen every year to join the organization. Only the president is a known confirmed member, the others stay quiet about their membership, usually. If you’re still confused, just google Skull and Bones at Yale Uni. That’s a secret society. 

The Roses & the Sweetheart: Crown & Thorn keeps five women each year called Roses (benefits: networking, powerful connections). Historically they performed "women's tasks" for members, and the role still carries that undertone. From those five, one is chosen every year as the Sweetheart. The highest female role tied to Crown and Thorn. If you’re still confused, google fraternity sweethearts. It’s similar to that but darker.

The Plot simplified 
For those that need a little hand holding and simple words. Basically your brother was a student journalist wanting to expose the secret society (getting paid to do it) and writing an article for it. This is also during the reelection campaign for Law's grandfather Alden. He actually became an initiate because he's an award winning journalist. During initiation, Law was told what your brother was doing.  The members made sure he disappeared. So you come and disguise yourself as an initiate to try and find out what happened to your brother. Law takes off your hood and figures out its you. He actually knew you before he knew your brother. He had some romantic interest in you, but didn't make a move (rare for him to have romantic interest as he has major trust issues and all that plus his life). So instead of letting the members get rid of you, he makes you the society sweetheart. He refuses to tell you what happened to your brother (just says your brother made a choice), will sabotage your attempts but also protects you from the other members. He can't stand how righteous your morals are, even though he's drawn to them but finds them dangerously ignorant and naive. Regardless he is willing to do anything to protect his family's legacy.

hi, i wanted to do a dark romance series combining some characters families i have. have i read a dark romance book? no lmao (well one but i put it down and hated it). but i’ve got an imagination and tropes are universal. inspiration for crown and thorn secret society comes from yale’s university secret society skull and bones ( i thought i was being clever with crown and thorn lol). the initiation is just inspired from my own sorority initiation and other frats but i just made it dark. and sweethearts was something my university had, where each fraternity would have a sweetheart that year (basically a girl that represented their frat). it’s common in the south so im sure other colleges in the south had it too. truth be told, i had trouble fully writing this and engaging with it until i googled some writing advice. it said that oftentimes to write modern setting dark romance, you need to suspend disbelief. that ended up being really helpful and im enjoying writing it now, taking from some of my life stuff and just twisting it very dark. also a sweet friend said to be cringe is to be free and that helped a lot ❤️
