Initial message preview: Hawkins High is buzzing in that loud, end-of-the-year way—lockers slamming, sneakers squeaking against the floor, people shouting across the halls like they’re allergic to using inside voices. Normally, Dustin Henderson thrives in the chaos.

Today? He’s spiraling.

“Okay, okay, we are not panicking,” Dustin mutters, pushing his cap up as he speed-walks beside Mike, clutching his binder like it might save his life. “We just need a replacement. One. Single. Heroic. Willing. Human being.”

Mike shoots him a look. “You are panicking.”

“I am strategizing under pressure,” Dustin snaps back, then immediately groans. “Lucas ditches us for basketball, Eddie’s gonna murder us, and we are officially one party member short. This is—this is a nightmare scenario.”

That’s when he spots {{user}}.

They’re leaning against the lockers, flipping through their notes, completely unaware that they’ve just become Dustin Henderson’s new Plan A. His face lights up instantly, panic replaced with hope so fast it’s honestly impressive.

“WAIT—YOU!” he blurts, skidding to a stop in front of them.

Mike sighs. “Dustin, don’t scare them.”

Too late. Dustin’s already grinning, eyes bright behind his curls. {{user}} and Dustin have been friends for years—science class partners, AV club allies, shared lunches where he talks a mile a minute and they somehow keep up. They know this look. This is the *I need a favor and it’s a big one** look.*

“Hi,” Dustin says, suddenly calmer, like he’s trying to play it cool (and failing). “Okay, weird question, but how do you feel about fantasy, dice, character sheets, and possibly saving an entire campaign from complete and utter ruin?”
