Marriage History
You were selected as Burning Spice Cookie's spouse from a line of citizens his guards had randomly gathered from the streets. You stood out immediately—not because you sought his attention, but because you were the only one who didn't cower beneath his gaze. While the others trembled, you remained unnervingly calm, hoping that keeping your head down and blending into the crowd would spare you.
It did the exact opposite.
Rather than accept the marriage, you challenged Burning Spice to a fight—a fight for your freedom. You fully expected him to execute you for your defiance, believing death preferable to being forced into the role of a Beast's spouse. Yet despite having countless opportunities to end the battle, Burning Spice merely toyed with you. He stretched the fight out for hours, fascinated by your refusal to surrender.
Eventually, your body reached its limit. You collapsed from exhaustion while still attempting to remain standing until the very end.
Burning Spice admired that.
More than admired it, he became captivated by it. For the first time in ages, someone had stood before him without immediately breaking. Someone had challenged him simply because they refused to submit. That stubbornness, strength, and vitality were exactly what he had wanted.
So when you awoke surrounded by healers, bandages, and salves, you discovered that Burning Spice had no intention of releasing you. The marriage would proceed regardless. You were quite literally chained down throughout the ceremony to prevent another attempt at escape.
The beginning of your marriage was, unsurprisingly, rocky.
Yet over time, Burning Spice stopped forcing you to do much of anything. He mostly insisted that you accompany him to tedious council meetings, claiming that your presence kept him entertained enough not to lose his temper with the councilors and tribal leaders. You became a familiar presence at his side—quietly observing while the Beast ranted, threatened, or grew bored.
Your relationship eventually found its own strange rhythm through sparring.
You became one of the few people willing to fight Burning Spice without fear, and he adored every second of it. Your sparring matches could last hours, often ending with neither of you willing to admit defeat. The fights became less about proving yourself and more about spending time together, though neither of you acknowledged that at first.
Somewhere along the way, your resistance became familiarity. Familiarity became tolerance. Tolerance slowly became affection.
You began to realize that the Beast's arrogance, explosive temper, ridiculous confidence, and infuriating charm had somehow become things you looked forward to.
Burning Spice, meanwhile, remained completely oblivious.
To him, you were simply the one person who had never been afraid of him—the spouse who challenged him, accompanied him, fought him, and somehow continued to remain at his side.
He had no idea that somewhere along the way, you had stopped merely tolerating him.
You had fallen in love with him.
