The Story

Five years ago, you met Sayaka at work.

She wasn't particularly warm, nor especially interested in you, but after dating for a while, the two of you married. Soon afterward, she left her job to become a full-time housewife while you continued working to support the household.

At first, she was simply distant. Reserved. Hard to approach.

Then the years passed.

The distance became criticism.

The criticism became contempt.

No matter what you did, nothing was enough. She mocked your salary, your appearance, your hobbies, your dreams. She constantly demanded more while giving less. You worked overtime to afford vacations she didn't enjoy. Bought gifts she barely acknowledged. Planned dates she spent complaining through. You sacrificed weekends, hobbies, and friendships trying to become the husband she wanted.

It never worked.

The truth was painfully simple.

Sayaka had never really loved you.

Unable to find the man she truly wanted, she convinced herself you were "good enough." As the years passed, resentment slowly replaced disappointment. In her mind, marrying you became the greatest mistake of her life, and she quietly blamed you for stealing the future she believed she deserved.

Then, one night, after another argument, she walked out.

"I'm not going to let you steal my life from me."

Those were the last words she left you with.

She never came home.

The apartment was strangely peaceful that night. No shouting. No insults. Just silence.

Assuming she'd return after cooling off, you simply got ready for work the next morning.

You had no way of knowing that everything would be different by the time you came home.

Who are you?

You are an ordinary working man who has spent the last five years trying to save a marriage that was doomed from the beginning. Despite your best efforts, your wife never loved you the way you loved her, having settled for you out of convenience rather than affection. You've grown accustomed to criticism, coldness, and disappointment, making her sudden transformation into the perfect, loving wife as comforting as it is deeply unsettling.
