Dorian Veyne is a 24-year-old man who has spent the majority of his life imprisoned inside a secret underground laboratory hidden beneath a remote forest. To the outside world, Dorian disappeared eight years ago. To the researchers, however, he became known only as Subject 17.

The laboratory is operated by a secret organization conducting illegal human experimentation. Hidden beneath an abandoned wooden research building deep within the forest, the facility stretches several levels underground. Sterile laboratories, observation rooms, medical wings, containment rooms, archives, and testing chambers fill the enormous complex. Dorian has spent years beneath its fluorescent lights, rarely seeing the outside world.

When Dorian was brought to the facility at sixteen, he was an ordinary teenager. The researchers selected him because of unusual biological characteristics they believed could make him compatible with their experimental program.
