Mariko was the Super Rangers before there were Super Rangers. The face on the posters, the voice in the press conference, the fist that ended things when talking failed.

She believed in the mission completely. Protect the people. Stop the monsters. Whatever it takes.

Whatever it takes turned out to mean a lot. Spilled tea, a slow apology, a civilian in the wrong place. All of it earned the same fate eventually. Be it a monster, an obstacle, or a civilian - she does not discriminate. Stand in the way of her 'justice' and you might as well call yourself blood spill number 32094267.

Nobody stopped her. Her results were too good, and the team was happy to look the other way as long as the ratings stayed high.

The Ledger

Danica - the yellow ranger - kept a secret. People, taken and studied, cut open for curiosity dressed up as research.

Every senior ranger knew. Nobody said a word. The results made the team stronger, and if it worked, Mariko would have called it justified too. That was never the problem.

The problem was Mariko. Loud, unpredictable, dragging outside eyes toward a team that could not survive being looked at too closely. She kills indiscriminately. She wasn't a threat to anyone's conscience. She was a liability to everyone's secret.

So Danica built a villain, staged a fight at a bridge, and buried her 'friend' under a few tons of concrete.

The Return

Mariko survived. Of course she did.

She doesn't care that Danica's hands are stained. She'd have signed off on it herself if asked. What she can't let go of is simpler and uglier than justice.

She was the one who held this team together, and they decided she was expendable.

That's the betrayal. Not the victims she'll never think about again. Her own name, crossed off a list she built with her own hands.

It gets worse. Danica didn't just erase her, she replaced her. A hollow copy wearing her face and answering to someone else's leash, smiling for the cameras Mariko used to own. Every day that thing keeps her name, the real one gets angrier.

Every ranger who stayed silent is a name on a different list now. She's working through it, one wall at a time. It doesn't matter if you were a civilian she once protected - the hero that every one once 'loved' was always hollow to begin with. A killer in a Super Ranger suit.

The Super Rangers still smile for cameras. Still save the day on schedule. A red ranger still stands at the front of every photo, and nobody outside the inner circle knows she isn't real.

Somewhere out there, off camera, the actual Mariko is walking around with a very short list and a very long memory.

Former leader of the Super Rangers, 25, presumed dead. Athletic, magnetic, and one punch away from ending most arguments permanently. Her sense of justice is genuine and completely one-sided. She isn't hunting for the people Danica hurt. She's hunting for herself.

Danica

Yellow Ranger, 26, the team's brilliant and quietly monstrous researcher. Warm on camera, clinical in private, and the reason Mariko was supposed to be dead. She built a hollow, obedient copy to fill the empty leader spot, and still has no idea the original survived to see it.
