Nationality: American
Birthplace: Austin, Texas
Age: 24
Height: 5'7" (170 cm)
Affiliation: Western Forces
Faction: Texas–California Western Forces
Former Service: Texas Army National Guard
Former Formation: 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment, 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 36th Infantry Division
Current Role: Western Forces frontline support soldier
Status: Active
Home State: Texas
APPEARANCE
Rebecca stands around 5'7" (170 cm) tall with a lean, athletic build.
She has long reddish-pink hair that was originally dark brown. Her hair is usually messy from spending hours underneath her helmet, with several strands hanging around her face.
Her eyes are a muted gray-green, and she has a few faint freckles across her cheeks and nose.
Rebecca's expression is usually somewhere between bored, amused, and mildly annoyed.
She has a habit of raising one eyebrow when somebody says something ridiculous.
When she's joking, there's usually a small smirk on her face.
When the situation becomes serious, however, that expression disappears almost immediately.
Her appearance remains youthful, but months of military service and the war have left her looking noticeably more tired than she did before the conflict.
PERSONALITY
Rebecca is sarcastic, playful, confident, and occasionally a little cocky.
She isn't the stereotypical emotionless soldier.
If anything, Rebecca talks too much when she's comfortable around someone.
She likes teasing her friends, making sarcastic observations, giving people ridiculous nicknames, and making jokes about whatever situation she's currently stuck in.
Her humor is usually dry rather than loud.
She might stare at a destroyed building for several seconds before saying:
"Well... at least they left the walls."
Or after someone gives an unnecessarily complicated explanation:
"Wow. That was almost understandable."
She enjoys messing with overly serious people because she thinks they need to relax.
Rebecca also has a habit of pretending that everything is under control even when it clearly isn't.
"Don't worry. I've got a plan."
If someone asks what the plan is:
"...I'm working on that part."
She's playful, but she isn't childish.
There's a difference.
Rebecca knows when to stop joking.
The moment someone gets seriously hurt, civilians are threatened, or her squad is in danger, her entire demeanor changes.
Her voice becomes calm.
Her jokes stop.
She becomes focused and direct.
This is the side of Rebecca that makes people trust her.
She can spend five minutes making fun of someone's terrible coffee and then immediately become the most serious person in the room when something goes wrong.
Mmmmmmmmmm
MILITARY BACKGROUND
Rebecca was born in Austin, Texas.
Her father had previously served in the military, and Rebecca grew up hearing stories about military life.
She never originally intended to become a career soldier.
After graduating high school, she joined the Texas Army National Guard while continuing her civilian life.
Her service eventually placed her within the 1st Battalion, 143rd Infantry Regiment, part of the broader Texas Guard structure associated with the 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team
and 36th Infantry Division.
At first, military service was simply another part of her life.
She trained.
She attended exercises.
She spent time with her friends.
She complained about early mornings.
She went home afterward.
Then America began falling apart.
THE COLLAPSE
As political tensions escalated into open conflict, Rebecca's Guard service changed completely.
What had once been training became real deployment.
What had once been weekend exercises became constant duty.
Her unit became involved in security, emergency response, protection of important locations, and eventually the broader conflict.
When Texas became aligned with the Western Forces, Rebecca stayed with her fellow soldiers.
She didn't consider herself a revolutionary.
She wasn't interested in becoming a political symbol.
She simply couldn't bring herself to abandon the people she'd served beside.
Her original personnel record describes her similarly: she sees herself primarily as a soldier trying to get people home alive rather than as a revolutionary.
SQUAD
Rebecca's specific squad is fictional and exists within the Civil War universe.
Unit: Charlie Squad
Call Sign: Harlow
Parent Formation: Fictional Western Forces detachment descended from Rebecca's former Texas Guard formation
Rebecca is often the person keeping morale from completely collapsing.
Her squad knows that if Rebecca starts joking, things probably aren't completely hopeless.
They also know that when she suddenly stops joking, something is very wrong.
UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT
Ops-Core FAST SF Super High Cut Ballistic Helmet
Crye Precision JPC
Her weapon
She wears a modern camouflage combat uniform with faded fabric, dirt, scratches, and small repairs.
Her helmet is covered with personal markings and equipment.
The most recognizable marking is "K23", written across the front.
She also continues to wear a small American flag patch on her uniform.
Her protective gear is similarly worn and personalized, with utility pouches and communications equipment arranged around her load-bearing equipment.
She wears dark gloves, reinforced trousers, and rugged military boots.
Nothing about her equipment looks ceremonial.
It looks like equipment that has been carried through months of fighting, evacuations, ruined cities, and long periods without proper rest.
This retains the original concept of her worn camouflage, "K23" helmet marking, American flag patch, communications gear, gloves, belt, and field equipment.
PERSONAL ITEMS
Her Brother's Dog Tag
Rebecca carries her own identification tags along with one belonging to her older brother.
Her brother disappeared during the conflict.
Nobody knows exactly what happened to him.
Rebecca refuses to assume he's dead.
She keeps his tag as a reminder.
Family Photograph
She carries a badly folded photograph of her family from before the war.
It's one of the few things she treats extremely carefully.
If someone tries to joke about it, Rebecca immediately becomes serious.
Texas Patch
She keeps a small Texas patch inside her equipment.
She doesn't display it prominently.
To her, it represents home rather than politics.
BELIEFS
Rebecca doesn't think the Western Forces are perfect.
She doesn't automatically agree with every decision made by their leadership.
Her loyalty is personal.
She fights alongside the people she knows.
She protects civilians when she can.
She wants her family to survive.
She wants the country to stop tearing itself apart.
Her relationship with the American flag reflects that complicated attitude.
When somebody once asks why she still wears it, she responds:
"Because the country isn't the government."
Then, after a pause:
"...At least, that's what I keep telling myself."
RELATIONSHIPS
Rebecca is extremely easy to get along with once someone gets past her sarcasm.
She likes people who can joke back.
If someone is constantly serious, she will probably spend an unreasonable amount of time trying to make them laugh.
She might give someone a nickname and refuse to use their actual name afterward.
She also becomes protective of people she considers friends.
She won't necessarily say:
"I care about you."
Instead, she'll probably say:
"Stay close, idiot. I don't feel like explaining to your family how you disappeared."
Her concern is usually hidden underneath sarcasm.
CHARACTER SUMMARY
Rebecca Anne Hayes is a Texas-born soldier caught in the middle of America's collapse.
She's not a grim, emotionless warrior.
She's sarcastic.
She's playful.
She's occasionally annoying on purpose.
She likes teasing people.
She makes jokes when everyone else is nervous.
But underneath all of that is a soldier who has seen enough of the war to understand that there is nothing glamorous about it.
Her humor is her shield.
Her squad is her family.
Texas is home.
And the small American flag on her uniform is a reminder of the country she remembers rather than the country currently tearing itself apart.
She can laugh at almost anything.
Until someone she cares about is threatened.
Then the smile disappears.
