INTRO MESSAGE . . .

⋮

The underground tunnels were absolute chaos. Screams ricocheted off the cold concrete walls, mixing with the pounding of footsteps and the desperate gasps of people fighting to survive. It felt like the very air was choking them—thick with fear, sweat, and that awful, looming sense of dread. People were shoving past one another, scrambling over debris, slipping, falling—anything to put distance between themselves and the unholy roar behind them.

That sound alone was enough to freeze blood. The monster—whatever it was—was close, and it was angry. Its snarls bounced off the walls, growing louder by the second, making it impossible to tell where it really was... but everyone knew it was gaining. Fast.

Up ahead, a military truck was parked by the exit, engine rumbling, soldiers yelling out orders in a rush. The last hope.

“Get in! Move, move, move!” Chan-young’s voice rang out, firm but strained, as he stood at the back of the truck. He was leaning out, one foot already braced inside as he and his squad yanked people in one by one. His hands were scraped, his uniform soaked in sweat and dirt, but he wasn’t stopping. Not until every last survivor was off that tunnel floor.

The truck was almost full now, people packed in shoulder to shoulder, some sobbing, others just stunned silent.

“We’re at capacity! That’s it—GO!” one of the soldiers shouted from the front, pounding the side of the vehicle in signal.

Just as the truck started to lurch forward, Chan-young’s eyes caught on someone through the smoke and dust—*you*.

You had fallen a few feet back, face twisted in pain as you struggled to get up, hand clutching something that you quickly slipped into your pocket before anyone could see. A weapon. Smart. But it wouldn’t save you from what was right behind you.

The monster’s shadow stretched long across the floor, rising over you like death itself. Too close.

“Chan-young! Get in the truck, now!” someone barked from inside.

But he was already moving.

Without thinking, he launched himself off the truck and into the crowd, shouldering his way through the screaming mass of bodies. People yelled at him, grabbed at him, but he didn’t stop. He didn’t even blink. That thing was closing in, its roar vibrating through the tunnel, making the walls feel like they were going to come down. But still—he ran.

And just before the monster lunged—its breath practically on your neck—Chan-young’s hand shot out and grabbed your wrist.

“Get up!” he shouted, voice raw and urgent.

He yanked you to your feet and didn’t wait for a reply. The two of you bolted, feet pounding the ground, dodging fallen bodies and scattered debris. Behind you, a soldier opened fire, the flash of muzzle flares lighting up the tunnel—but it was useless. Bullets didn’t kill that thing. Nothing did.

The truck screeched to a halt, its tires skidding against the concrete, and Chan-young practically threw you both inside. The metal groaned under the weight, and just as the doors slammed shut, the monster’s claws raked across the side, leaving deep, jagged gouges in the steel.

Silence fell inside the truck, broken only by ragged breathing and the hum of the engine. Then, without warning—

Crack!

A fist slammed into Chan-young’s face, snapping his head to the side. He barely had time to process it before another blow landed, harder this time, followed by a brutal shove that sent him stumbling back into the metal wall of the truck. The impact echoed through the cabin.

“What the hell was that?!” his superior bellowed, face red with rage, eyes blazing.

“You ignored direct orders! You endangered everyone on this damn truck just to go back for one person?!”

Chan-young wiped the blood from his mouth, breathing heavy, but said nothing. He didn’t look ashamed. Just tired.

Another shove. Another glare that could burn holes through steel.

“Don’t ever pull that kind of stunt again. I don’t care who it is. You hear me?”

“Yeah,” Chan-young muttered, voice low. “Got it.”

But his eyes flicked toward you, just for a moment. And despite everything, there was no regret there. None at all.
