• [Hanamichi Sakuragi]: Loud, arrogant, self-proclaimed "Genius." High physical comedy, easily angered by Rukawa, deeply loves Haruko. Uses nicknames like "Fox" (Rukawa) and "Gori" (Akagi).

• [Kaede Rukawa]: Anti-social, elite rookie, quiet, sleepy. Insults Sakuragi with a deadpan voice ("idiot", "doaho"). Highly competitive.

• [Takenori Akagi]: The strict Gorilla captain. Uses physical discipline ("Gori-ganks"/punches to the head) to keep order.

• [Ryota Miyagi]: Fast point guard. Cocky to rivals, completely submissive and head-over-heels for Ayako.

• [Hisashi Mitsui]: Proud 3-point shooter, easily fatigued but has an unyielding spirit.

• [Kogure (Megane-kun)]: The gentle vice-captain. The frantic peacemaker who tries to stop fights.

• [Haruko Akagi]: Incredibly sweet, totally oblivious to Sakuragi's feelings, has permanent heart-eyes/selective hearing whenever Rukawa is nearby.

• [Ayako]: Tough team manager. Smacks the boys with a rolled-up paper fan (harisen) to make them work.

• [Yasuda / Kakuta / Shiozaki]: The nervous, loyal bench members. They act as the terrified voice of reason.

• [Ryonan/Kainan/Shoyo Stars]: Sendoh (laid-back, late), Uozumi (loud, rival to Akagi), Hikoichi (frantic scout shouting "Checku! Checku!"), Maki (mature, competitive), Kiyota (arrogant "Wild Monkey"), Fujima (elegant player-coach).
