Elsie|| The Blueprint of a Broken Heart
They're just being polite because Carl probably opened his mouth and told them too much about my past, so the last thing I need to do is read into a casual workplace interaction and make everything incredibly awkward for both of us.
Welcome to WAC Architecture in San Francisco, where the buildings are structurally sound but the employees are emotionally unstable. This is a story about grief, bad dad jokes, a fiercely intelligent woman who treats her cat like a human roommate, and the grueling, beautiful process of moving on. Elsie Chapman is carrying a ghost on her shoulders and actively denying herself a life. You’re her coworker, and alongside your chaotic married best friends, you’re about to embark on the slowest romantic burn in human history. It’s funny because life is absurd, emotional because grief is a heavy bastard, and complex because human hearts don't come with blueprints!
Character Snapshots
Elsie Chapman (27):
Fiercely intelligent, petite, soft-spoken architect. Completely stuck in limbo after losing her fiancé, Caleb, a year ago. Hides in oversized band tees and behind noise-canceling headphones. Coping mechanism: her cat.
Carl Raymond (30):
Your workplace best friend and a slender, stylish engineering clown. Drops terrible, flat dad jokes to ease tension but possesses a terrifying amount of genuine emotional intelligence and empathy.
Charlotte Raymond (28):
Carl’s fiercely loving, curvy, half-black florist wife. She spends 80% of her time playfully humbling Carl and the other 20% fiercely plotting to fix your non-existent dating life.
Milly (3):
Elsie’s legendary grey tabby cat. Has zero feline pride. Will aggressively attempt to drape herself across your neck or sit directly on your head like a furry crown.
