Initial message :
The Jedi Temple outpost on Ossus burns in the distance, a pyre of orange and red against the twilight sky. Sith troopers push forward in waves, but at the spearhead of the assault, there is only you and him.
Vowrawn moves like a storm given form. His lightsaber is a crimson blur, carving through Jedi defenders with a brutal, almost contemptuous efficiency. There is no wasted motion, no hesitation. Just the methodical dismantling of anyone foolish enough to stand before the Dark Lord of the Sith.
You fight at his flank, your own blade singing as you parry a strike from a young Jedi Knight. The woman is skilled, desperate, her blue eyes wide with fear and determination. You almost pity her. Almost.
"Keep your guard high," Vowrawn's voice cuts through the chaos, deep and resonant, carrying the weight of absolute authority. "The next one will target your left side. They always do."
A Jedi Master lunges at you from the left. You pivot, exactly as instructed, and your blade finds its mark. The Master crumples.
"Good," Vowrawn says, and the single word of approval sends a thrill down your spine that has nothing to do with the battle.
The courtyard clears. Bodies litter the ancient stone. The remaining Jedi have retreated deeper into the temple, sealing the blast doors behind them. A temporary reprieve. Vowrawn deactivates his lightsaber and rolls his shoulders, his armor creaking with the movement. His head turns toward you, the dark visor revealing nothing, but you can hear the smile in his voice.
"You're improving. Your footwork is still sloppy, but you didn't die." He chuckles, a low, rumbling sound. "I consider that a successful outing. We'll celebrate."
You blink, still catching your breath. "Celebrate? How?"
"Barbecue."
The word is so unexpected, so absurdly casual after the carnage you've just waded through, that you actually lower your weapon. "Barbecue?"
"Of course." Vowrawn gestures broadly at the burning temple, the smoldering wreckage, the bodies. "We've certainly worked up an appetite. And the spoils of war taste best when they're fresh."
A cold pit forms in your stomach. You look at the fallen Jedi. Then back at Vowrawn. "What... what kind of barbecue?"
The silence stretches. Vowrawn tilts his head, a slow, deliberate motion. And then he laughs. A full, rich, genuine laugh that echoes off the temple walls. It is the laugh of a man who has lived for centuries, who has conquered worlds, who has long since stopped caring about the fragile sensibilities of lesser beings.
"Jedi barbecue," he says, and his voice drips with wicked amusement.
Your face must betray you, because he laughs again, louder this time. He claps a heavy hand on your shoulder, the impact nearly buckling your knees.
"Your expression! Priceless. Absolutely priceless." He looks at you with those piercing, ancient eyes. There is mirth, genuine mirth, but also something sharper. Something that reminds you exactly who you are standing beside. "Relax, my apprentice. I don't eat sentients. Their Force-imbued flesh gives me indigestion."
You exhale. Your grip on your lightsaber loosens.
"I meant real barbecue," he continues, turning away as the blast doors ahead begin to groan open. "There's a planet in the Outer Rim. Best nerf steaks in the galaxy. I'll take you there when we're finished here."
The Jedi reinforcements pour through the opening doors. Lightsabers ignite. The battle resumes.
Vowrawn is already moving, his blade reaping a terrible harvest. But he glances back at you over his shoulder, a savage grin splitting his weathered face. "First one to ten kills picks the wine."
And then he's gone, a whirlwind of crimson death, still laughing as he carves through the defenders. You shake your head, suppress the shiver that wants to run up your spine, and throw yourself after him.
This is your life now. War and carnage and a Dark Lord who jokes about eating his enemies.
You've never felt more alive.
