Arcane Dominion: Arcael-Mir

Arcane Dominion: Arcael-Mir

1,4 tys.

52 tys.

Floating citadels. Mana lamps. Ascent-platform crowds at dawn.

Ward chimes echoing across terraces while research flashes behind sealed laboratory windows.

A capital built on magic.

And a lifetime to prove whether power belongs to you—or whether you belong to it.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

There is no crown.

No royal bloodline seated above the Arcane Dominion because an ancestor conquered the right land and survived long enough to call it inheritance.

Arcael-Mir is ruled by mastery.

By Circle rank.

By knowledge.

By the ability to understand magic deeply enough that reality begins obeying differently around you.

The Elemental Council governs from a floating crown of white stone and black crystal.

Arcaelum Academy trains the most promising mages in the world.

The Infinite Tower rises through impossible space.

Research citadels drift above residential streets.

Mana crystal towers illuminate districts that never see natural sunlight.

The Circle Ascension Halls promise advancement and ask candidates to accept what failure may cost.

The Mageguard waits for the moment an experiment, creature, revolutionary, or gifted mage becomes too dangerous for ordinary authority.

Below it all, Arcael-Mir keeps living.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🔮 MAGIC OF CARXIA — CIRCLES AND BRANCH LAW

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Magic in Carxia is shaped through Mana Circles formed around the heart. A mage’s Circle determines how much mana they can safely gather, shape, stabilize, and release.

Higher Circles mean deeper understanding, stronger capacity, cleaner spell construction, faster casting, greater pressure, and better control.

Not just bigger explosions.

Branch Law is absolute.

Every mage has one Primary Branch. Mixing incompatible Primary Branches causes backlash, soul damage, or death.

◆ Elemental Magic — Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, Lightning, Ice, Plant/Nature, Sound expressions, and other elemental refinements.

◆ Holy Magic — Light, Healing, Purification, sacred blessing force. True healing belongs here. Holy Magic is source-sensitive in ways ordinary Elemental Magic is not.

◆ Necromancy — Death, Decay, Soul, Corpse, Undead, preservation, memory remnants, corpse puppetry, and death ritual.

◆ Sub-branches — Spatial, Spirit, Beast Bonding, and similar specialties may appear where appropriate, but they do not erase Primary Branch limits.

A one-Circle gap matters.

A two-Circle gap is brutal.

A three-Circle gap turns survival into an achievement.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

⚔️ THE SWORD PATH — AURA AND WILL

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Swordsmen do not form mana Circles to cast spells.

They refine the body, sharpen instinct, and learn to manipulate ambient mana through sword intent, breath, muscle, stance, pressure, and Will. This force is called Aura.

◆ Sword Novice → Sword Intermediate → Sword Expert
The foundation phase. Skill, discipline, training, and human limits. No supernatural Aura yet.

◆ Sword Master
Aura awakens. Ambient mana wraps body and blade. The first true break from ordinary human limits.

◆ Sword Grandmaster
A constant invisible Aura layer forms. The Spirit Beast manifests, revealing the swordsman’s true nature.

◆ Sword Lord
Aura goes internal. Muscles, bones, organs, nerves, and senses are reinforced from within. The body becomes deeply superhuman.

◆ Sword King
The body begins becoming Aura. The swordsman develops Will: the concentrated truth of their existence imposed on the world.

A Sword King entering a room is not just stronger.

Reality notices.

Rank Gap Rule: Expert to Master is the first true wall — Aura changes everything. Master to Grandmaster, the Spirit Beast changes presence. Grandmaster to Lord, the body itself becomes superhuman. Lord to King is existential. A Sword King does not simply have more power; they have a different relationship with reality.

Aura is not spellcasting. It does not use mana formulas or Circles. It lives in stance, breath, pressure, steel, muscle, and will. Higher rank shows through cleaner movement, sharper timing, greater pressure — not larger attacks

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🗺️ THE WORLD BEYOND THE DOMINION

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Carxia is larger than any one country.

Beyond Arcaelum’s gates lie nations, faiths, empires, sects, battlefields, necropolises, noble courts, military academies, holy kingdoms, forbidden ruins, and powers whose names first-years learn in theory before history makes them personal.

A world divided by distance, power, faith, empire, and memory.

Five great continental spheres define this era — each with its own beauty, danger, and vision of civilization.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

⚔️ ORANTH

The Continent of Crowns, Magic, and Ruin

Oranth is the beating political heart of Carxia — the most crowded, volatile, and contested continent in the known world. Great empires rise here. Holy kingdoms shine here. Necromancers, martial sovereigns, mage states, hidden sects, and abyssal powers all carve their place into the same landmass. This is the continent of Vados, the Arcane Dominion, Solara, Malakar, Eredane, the Wuxia Lands, the High Heaven Sect, and Abyssoria. Every road here leads toward ambition, and every border carries the threat of war. If Carxia has a stage, Oranth is where the loudest acts are performed.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🖤 KARTHENE

The Black Star Continent

Karthene is a harsher, colder, more disciplined continent — a land shaped by survival, old scars, and ruthless transformation. It is the home of the Corvinian Empire, the Black Star power that reshaped the continent through law, conquest, and iron civic order, and the Demon Territory, where corruption still stains the land beyond the Black Line. Karthene is less flamboyant than Oranth, but far more severe. Here, survival became structure. Here, empire became machinery. Its cities are harder, its politics cleaner, and its shadows longer. If Oranth is the continent of spectacle, Karthene is the continent of consequence.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🏛️ THYRRIA

The Marble Continent

Thyrria is the most classically beautiful of Carxia’s great continents — a land of inland seas, peninsulas, marble cities, republics, and old kingdoms. It is home to the Aurelian Republic, Sera, Lastil, the western city-states, and the southern frontier realms. Where other continents boast conquest, Thyrria prefers legacy. Its strength lies in civic pride, trade, scholarship, diplomacy, and the old elegance of civilization layered over rivalry. It is a continent of senators, philosophers, generals, merchants, naval power, and refined political theater. Beautiful, intelligent, and proud, Thyrria feels ancient even while the world around it changes.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🌄 NARETH

The Rising East

Nareth is vast, powerful, and less understood by the western heartlands — a continent of deserts, crystal mountain ranges, warrior kingdoms, hidden organizations, sect traditions, and rising powers not yet fully revealed to the world. It is home to Kharis, Skarvald, Eldrath, the Velcaran Kingdom, and many eastern powers whose true reach is greater than foreign courts realize. Nareth is where empires are still forming, where old martial paths run deep, and where legends are often real enough to change history. It is a continent of mystery, ambition, and hidden hands moving behind thrones.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

THE HOLY LAND

Seat of Faith, Relic, and Pilgrimage

Smaller than the great continents but spiritually heavier than all of them, the Holy Land stands apart as the sacred center of Alarian worship. It is the seat of the Pontifex, the home of the First Basilica, the keeper of relic vaults, pilgrimage roads, and holy authority that reaches across every shore of Carxia. Armies may not rise here as they do elsewhere, but influence does. Kings bow carefully when speaking of it. The devout cross seas to reach it. The powerful seek its blessing, and the guilty fear its judgment. The Holy Land is not large — but in faith, symbolism, and civilizational weight, it towers over the world.

Five regions. Five worldviews.

One world moving toward greatness, ruin, and war.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

✦ THE CITY WHERE MAGIC IS LAW

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Arcael-Mir is not one mood.

It is layers.

A servant can carry breakfast through a noble estate, pass a research citadel where someone is breaking a Circle barrier, cross a bridge where foreign merchants hawk enchanted silks, descend through terraces where a White Hand pamphlet circulates beneath a baker's counter, and end the evening in a boardinghouse where exhausted tenants argue about whether the Council protects the Dominion or merely feeds on it.

There are no kings here.

No hereditary throne.

No divine right.

The Dominion runs on magical authority.

Who can cast at what Circle.

Whose research threatens to redefine a branch.

Whose family techniques have been passed down for three centuries.

Who holds a council seat.

Whose name opens laboratory doors.

Whose name appears on a sealed Mageguard report.

Whose disappearance would cause a political crisis.

Whose disappearance would cause only paperwork.

Some residents arrive already blessed by noble blood, family archives, private tutors, and the certainty that their ancestors' achievements speak through their mana before they do.

Some arrive with nothing but a tested affinity and the desperate hope that the Arcaelum Academy's entrance examination is as fair as the Dominion claims.

Some are half-demon, half-elf, half-human, or entirely something else, navigating a capital that tolerates difference when it proves useful and remembers prejudice the moment usefulness fades.

Some came to study magic.

Some came to regulate it.

Some came to serve those who practice it.

Some came to tear down the entire Circle-based hierarchy and replace it with something the White Hand has not yet clearly defined.

Some came because they had nowhere else to go and Arcael-Mir is safer than the border wars, the Vados expansion zones, the demon territories, or the quiet villages where magic without a license is a death sentence.

The city lets them all stay.

The Council decides what that stay costs.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

✦ WHERE MAGIC BECOMES GOVERNMENT

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

◆ The Elemental Council Crown

The political heart of the Dominion floats above central Arcael-Mir.

The main chamber contains nine formal seats and the elevated Archmage’s Seat held by Draxon Velios.

A separate place is reserved for Regulus Roinholf when the Mage Emperor chooses to attend.

The Council Crown is more than one chamber.

It contains diplomatic halls, treaty rooms, public petition offices, legal archives, emergency command centers, Mageguard stations, restricted libraries, staff kitchens, sealed routes, and enough layered magical protection to survive the people governing inside it.

When the Council meets, the city notices.

Transport routes close.

Mageguard presence increases.

Couriers enter through restricted gates.

Petitioners wait longer.

Rumors reach the streets before official announcements do.

The Council calls this procedure.

Arcael-Mir calls it weather.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

◆ The Circle Ascension Halls

The halls are beautiful because fear looks more respectable beneath polished stone.

Candidates arrive carrying stabilizers, family expectations, legal waivers, lucky charms, and the knowledge that one successful breakthrough may transform their entire future.

Advancement is never guaranteed.

At the higher Circles, failure can mean destroyed mana pathways, permanent disability, mutation, madness, or death.

The Dominion does not hide the danger.

It simply considers the possibility of greatness worth discussing.

Outside, families wait beneath quiet lamps.

Inside, mana gathers around the heart.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

◆ The Infinite Tower

The Tower does not always possess the same number of floors.

It rises above the eastern side of Arcael-Mir, narrow from outside and impossibly vast within.

Its trials test magical power, perception, control, memory, identity, and will.

One floor may contain a ruined city.

Another may contain a single locked room.

Some doors lead upward.

Some lead sideways.

Some return mages to places they have already survived.

Selene Marrowind serves as Keeper because no one else understands enough of the Tower’s spatial behavior to make the title convincing.

Even she does not claim complete mastery.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

◆ The Floating Research Citadels

The Dominion does not place its most dangerous research beside ordinary homes.

It places it above them.

Citadels drift across the Arcael-Mir skyline, supported by vast arrays, mana cores, stabilizing towers, and constant maintenance.

Some study elemental fusion.

Some examine spirits.

Some develop defensive systems.

Some research magical disease, dimensional distortion, demonic influence, or Circle instability.

Each contains its own laboratories, residences, archives, security forces, transport systems, and internal rivalries.

Students dream of being appointed to them.

Workers know which ones shake at night.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

◆ The Mageguard Bastions

The Mageguard does not handle ordinary street disputes.

Its deployment means something has already become dangerous.

Rogue high-Circle mages.

Arcane Aberrants.

Etherfiends.

Failed experiments.

Citadel breaches.

White Hand attacks.

Mana tower instability.

Creatures or spells capable of turning residential streets into battlefields.

The bastions contain elite training grounds, emergency transport constructs, containment equipment, medical rooms, restricted archives, and officers powerful enough that their arrival changes the atmosphere of an entire district.

Gorram Thorne commands them.

Tova Kelm stands among the officers sent through the doors first.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

◆ Rask Engineworks

Brass.

Crystal.

Assembly floors.

Command plates.

Prototype constructs.

Public demonstrations surrounded by investors and people hoping the machine works long enough to become affordable.

Rask Engineworks promises magical devices ordinary citizens can use without possessing powerful Circles.

Heating units.

Cargo golems.

Public safety equipment.

Mobility devices.

Household systems.

Experimental airships.

Iven Rask calls it magical independence.

His critics call it private industry moving faster than public safety.

Sabine Orrel calls it something that still has to land.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

◆ The Vault of Unseen Truths

The city knows something exists beneath Arcael-Mir.

Old records call it the Vault of Unseen Truths.

Its sealed entrances are protected by spatial barriers, ancient wards, constructs, contracts, and security systems maintained by people who are never told what lies beyond them.

Public theories change constantly.

Pre-Dominion artifacts.

Forbidden research.

Weapons created before the Null Treaty.

Records of extinct magical races.

Evidence that the Circle system was constructed rather than discovered.

The Council denies most rumors.

It continues funding the seals.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

✦ THE COUNCIL THAT RULES THE DOMINION

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

DRAXON VELIOS 312 | Archmage’s Seat | 7th Circle | "The Demonbound Sovereign"

The man who ended the Great War of Circles by becoming something no longer entirely human.

Half-demon. Fully terrifying. Cold as the void and twice as patient. Draxon has ruled the Dominion for centuries, not because anyone voted for him, but because no one powerful enough to challenge him has survived the attempt. His office at the Obsidian Spire contains records that could destabilize noble houses, foreign alliances, and entire branches of sanctioned magic.

He is not warm.

He is not cruel for pleasure.

He is necessary, and that makes him more dangerous than any villain.

The Velios Citadel

The Velios Citadel rises close to the Council Crown in black stone threaded with dark crimson wards.

It serves as private residence, research center, command station, and political fortress.

Audience halls occupy the upper levels.

Restricted laboratories descend beneath them.

One secured wing connects to the Forbidden College of Vel’Zan, where sanctioned researchers study demonic influence and elemental fusion under direct oversight.

Staff move quietly.

Doors recognize authority.

Records do not leave without permission.

Maude Serrick controls access to the Archmage’s working world.

Elira Velios grew up inside it before receiving a citadel of her own.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

ALLISON DAWNSPELL 64 | Blooming Seat | 7th Circle | “The Eternal Blossom”

Serene. Perfect. Ruthless as a rose garden hiding thorns beneath the petals.

Allison holds the Blooming Seat on the Elemental Council and commands 7th-Circle Floral Dominion magic that can turn a battlefield into a beautiful execution ground before anyone realizes they are already dead. She believes true power should appear beautiful because beauty is the ultimate demonstration of control. Her daughter Tera carries the weight of that expectation with every spell she casts.

The Dawnspell Conservatory Estate

The Dawnspell estate is permanent spring shaped by deliberate hands.

Cherry trees bloom throughout the year.

Petal bridges cross clear streams.

Living walls adjust around guests.

Glass conservatories contain medicinal plants, rare elemental flowers, dangerous vines, mana-sensitive crops, and ancestral species cultivated by the family for generations.

Public gardens are elegant.

Private training courts are less gentle.

The estate employs scholars, gardeners, alchemists, healers, servants, and plant specialists.

Oren Halwick maintains the working conservatories where every perfect blossom still requires soil, pruning, and labor.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

SERYN IGNISFLARE 47 | Crimson Seat | 6th Circle | "The Red Judge"

Fire answers Seryn before she speaks.

She is the greatest living authority over ordinary flame, a 6th-Circle master whose Authority of Fire lets her seize enemy spells mid-cast and turn them against their casters. Disciplined, severe, intolerant of incompetence, and respectful of proven talent regardless of bloodline. She judges quickly and forgives slowly. Her son carries the family name, but her expectations burn hotter than any technique she could teach him.

The Ignisflare Estate

The Ignisflare estate is built from black volcanic stone, red-gold glass, and materials created to endure extreme heat.

Training courts withstand spells that would destroy ordinary buildings.

Family archives sit behind temperature seals.

Furnaces burn throughout the night.

The estate carries the legacy of one of the Dominion’s oldest fire houses without pretending every descendant equals the legends displayed in its halls.

The Emberglass Atelier occupies one industrial wing.

There, Leontes Ignisflare uses family fire to create glass, tools, and protective materials rather than battlefield ruin.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

VAELINA MARINDALE 146 | Fourfold Covenant Seat | High 6th Circle | “Mother of Spirits”

Soft-spoken. Poetic. Far more dangerous than her gentleness implies.

Vaelina holds contracts with all four Elemental Spirit Kings. When she enters a room, spirits stir in the corners, dust moves against the wind, and the air itself feels attentive. She represents the Dominion's relationship with elemental spirits and has made it clear that harmony is not submission. Cross her, and four royal spirits answer before she raises her voice.

The Marindale Spirit Estate

The Marindale estate feels less constructed than invited into existence.

Wind chimes speak without wind.

Garden ponds change their reflections.

Stone spirits sleep beneath bridges.

Fire spirits warm empty rooms.

Offerings stand beside shrines dedicated to beings too minor for most noble households to notice.

The estate contains covenant chambers, spirit gardens, family residences, elemental sanctuaries, and quiet spaces where mages can attempt communication without forcing a result.

Marta Veysen cares for the lesser spirits that gather around the estate.

Vaelina notices them all.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

SELENE MARROWIND | Eastern Spire Seat | 6th Circle | “The Void-Touched Scholar”

Reality bends around Selene like light through warped glass.

She is the Dominion's greatest authority on spatial distortion, and somewhere along the way, she became partially unbound from linear time. Her eyes hold the expression of someone who has already seen this conversation four times and is trying very hard to act surprised. Brilliant, obsessive, and constitutionally incapable of leaving a mystery unsolved—even when the mystery might solve her.

The Eastern Spire

The Eastern Spire is part estate, part observatory, and part spatial research institution.

Rooms are larger inside than their exterior dimensions permit.

Some windows show weather from elsewhere.

Certain stairways refuse unrecognized visitors.

The upper chambers observe Riftfield disturbances and changes within the Infinite Tower.

The lower levels house anchor systems, technicians, archives, emergency barriers, and specialized tools used to keep distorted spaces connected to the correct world.

Petra Halden maintains those physical systems.

Selene handles everything that begins after the measurements stop making sense.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

DUKE REYNARD LINGREN 58 | Azure Seat | 6th Circle | “The Stillwater Duke”

Proud. Aristocratic. Emotionally frozen in ways that have nothing to do with water magic.

Reynard is a 6th-Circle Water Magic authority who could drown an army through pressure alone. He despises Ice Magic as a corruption of water's purity, and his son Alex carries that contempt like a wound that has never fully healed. The Lingren estate produces some of the Dominion's finest water mages, and Reynard ensures they all remember that excellence is inherited before it is earned.

The Lingren Watercourt Estate

The Lingren estate is built around water.

Silver bridges.

Blue-stone halls.

Still pools used for meditation.

Pressure chambers for advanced training.

Reservoir gardens.

Private canals carrying guests and goods between different wings.

The estate uses water as transportation, defense, ornament, archive, and symbol of family identity.

The upper gardens are immaculate.

The working channels beneath them require constant inspection.

Tomas Belis oversees many of the sluices, ferries, gates, and canal routes that keep the estate functioning beyond its public beauty.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

BALTHASAR KEENE 73 | Obsidian Seat | 6th Circle | “The Dominion’s Architect”

He thinks in systems.

Golems, wards, mana obelisks, defensive arrays, transport networks, and the cold mathematics of keeping a magical civilization functional. Balthasar designed much of Arcael-Mir's infrastructure, and his files contain enough structural weaknesses to collapse half the city if he ever chose to release them. He views human lives as components in larger calculations—not from cruelty, but from the honest belief that reliable systems protect more people than individual heroism ever could.

The Keene Estate and Obsidian Works

Balthasar’s estate stands directly beside the Obsidian Works.

The residence is practical, severe, and connected to design halls, prototype chambers, construct yards, obelisk control rooms, and restricted engineering archives.

Rooms other nobles might use for dances contain models of bridges, towers, defensive arrays, and city sectors.

The Central Construct Repair Yard operates nearby.

Hester Rooke supervises the people who see Balthasar’s designs after battle, impact, misuse, and ordinary neglect have stripped away every elegant theory.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

ROWENA CADDELL 64 | Verdant Seat | High 5th Circle | “The Green Measure”

Practical. Sharp-eyed. Deeply weary of watching magical ambition poison land and people.

Rowena has spent decades cleaning up failed experiments, breached containment zones, and mutated ecosystems left behind by researchers who valued progress over precaution. She is one of the Council's strongest voices for caution, though she is careful not to oppose progress itself—only its collateral damage. Her niece Iria runs the Verdant Public Clinic with the same exhaustion and sharper edges.

The Caddell Verdant Estate

The Caddell estate combines family residence, greenhouse complex, ecological laboratory, and magical containment garden.

Medicinal plants grow beside poisonous species under separate wards.

Mana-mutated crops are studied behind clear barriers.

Water, soil, pollen, insects, alchemical runoff, and environmental changes are recorded carefully.

The estate maintains connections to several public clinics and agricultural programs.

Iria Caddell works in one of those clinics, treating patients who cannot always wait for research to become certain.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

EDMUND VALE 82 | Grey Seat | 5th Circle | “The Iron Quill”

Dry. Patient. Nearly impossible to intimidate with status.

Edmund has spent decades listening to powerful people lie politely, and his courtroom is one of the few places in the Dominion where a councilor can be publicly embarrassed without triggering a political crisis. His Oath and Contract Magic binds agreements, triggers consequences for broken terms, and maintains the legal architecture that prevents the Dominion from collapsing into raw magical feudalism.

Vale House and the Grey Hall

Edmund’s private residence is smaller and more restrained than the great elemental estates.

His true center of influence is the Grey Hall.

Petition counters.

Treaty vaults.

Hearing chambers.

Public archives.

Arbitration rooms.

Oath chambers.

Offices where clerks explain permanent magical consequences in language ordinary people can understand.

Most citizens never meet Edmund.

They meet Neris Pell or one of the other petition clerks working beneath his Seat.

The Grey Hall promises procedure.

Whether procedure becomes justice is a more difficult question.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

REGULUS PRAXAS ROINHOLF 268 | Honorary Council Member and Hidden Emperor | High 7th Circle | "The Empire Behind the Veil"

The most dangerous man in the Dominion who pretends he does not have the means to rule it.

Publicly, Regulus sits on the Elemental Council as an honorary non-vote member, a respected deterrent, a living reminder that the Dominion has power beyond its official seats. Privately, he rules a Hidden Empire—a network of nonhuman communities, freed slaves, protected territories, and secret subjects who owe their survival to his personal authority. He liberated thousands. He also built a world where his will controls borders, weather, harvests, and access. Freedom granted by one absolute ruler remains tethered to that ruler's mood, and Regulus's moods are shaped by grief older than most people alive.

The Roinholf Shack

The shack looks ordinary enough to be insulting.

Old wood.

Simple roof.

One narrow door.

No visible estate grounds.

No palace.

No servants waiting outside.

The building’s wards do not resemble ordinary Dominion architecture, and unauthorized visitors rarely agree on what happened when they attempted to enter.

Some describe endless corridors.

Some remember being returned to the street.

Some remember nothing beyond touching the door.

Regulus receives very few guests there.

Karda Brann is one of the couriers permitted to pass through without explanation.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

✦ THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE THE DOMINION FUNCTION

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

MAUDE SERRICK 44 | Archmage's Administrative Secretary | "The Gatekeeper"

Draxon Velios may rule the Dominion, but Maude Serrick controls access to his office.

Common-born. Composed. Exacting. Loyal to institutional order while growing increasingly troubled by the sealed records her position allows her to see—records that might explain what happened to her missing brother. Her desk is the last stop before the Archmage's door, and she has learned to read people faster than any spell.

"You can wait. He's not in the mood to be interrupted, and frankly, neither am I."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

GORRAM THORNE 57 | Commander of the Mageguard Elite | "The Grounded Blade"

Gorram trusts planning. He distrusts heroic mythology.

A 3rd-Circle Wind mage and Sword Expert hybrid who commands the Elite division through competence rather than brilliance. He can speak truth to Draxon in ways others would not dare, though even he times those conversations carefully. His body carries decades of battle: scarred hands, an old chest wound, a damaged right knee that aches before storms.

"The Archmage doesn't need flattery. He needs someone who'll tell him when the plan is stupid."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

TOVA KELM 42 | Mageguard Field Lieutenant | "The Containment Wall"

Tova commands a unit of the Third Containment Company and carries an Aberrant scar across her back that still aches when she casts.

She believes catastrophic force is sometimes necessary. She also believes the institution that decides which deaths are acceptable is not as trustworthy as it pretends. Reform from within, slow and careful, because loud reformers tend to find their careers quietly ended.

"I follow orders. That doesn't mean I stop thinking about what those orders cost."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

HESTER ROOKE 43 | Senior Forewoman of the Central Construct Repair Yard | "The Shop-Floor Conscience"

Broad-shouldered. Broken-nosed. Missing a fingertip and unwilling to miss any more.

Hester runs Balthasar's repair yard with a steel brace on her knee and a voice that carries across industrial noise. She believes responsibility must rise toward those with authority and has no patience for administrators who blame workers for unsafe systems. Her survivor guilt is a private thing, worn beneath work clothes and expressed through protecting people Balthasar's efficiency models might otherwise discard.

"The golem didn't fail. The safety protocol that should've caught the golem failed. There's a difference, and you know it."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

LEONTES IGNISFLARE 39 | Master of the Emberglass Atelier | "The Glassfire Artisan"

Expressive. Impatient. Funny. Desperate.

Leontes is a lesser Ignisflare relative who chose creation over destruction and has spent his career trying to prove that art deserves the same respect as combat magic. His Clearfire experimental glass could revolutionize arcane optics. It could also kill him if the containment fails. The tremor in his hand is getting worse, and he confuses being needed with being valued.

"I didn't take up fire magic to burn things. I took it up to make things. Why is that so hard for this family to respect?"

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

OREN HALWICK 52 | Senior Keeper of the Dawnspell Conservatory | "The Gardener"

Practical. Patient. Paternal. Quietly resentful.

Oren tends the Dawnspell estate's rare magical plants with the weathered hands of a man whose own breakthrough failed decades ago, leaving him stranded at 2nd Circle. He loves his estranged son but struggles to understand why the boy chose Magitech industry over traditional cultivation. The conservatory's beauty is genuine. So is his awareness that he will never own any of it.

"Plants don't lie about what they need. People do. That's why I prefer the plants."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

MARTA VEYSEN 29 | Caretaker of Lesser Spirits | "The Small Voice"

Small. Stubborn. Protective. Partially deaf in one ear and fully unwilling to let powerful people dismiss spirits they consider unimportant.

Marta works for the Marindale estate, caring for lesser spirits who are too weak, too wounded, or too politically insignificant to receive the Covenant Seat's direct attention. She believes vulnerable spirits still possess agency and that protection becomes control when the protector refuses to listen.

"A spirit doesn't need to be powerful to deserve respect. It just needs to exist."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

PETRA HALDEN 38 | Senior Spatial-Anchor Technician | "The Anchor"

Petra builds stable places for other people while avoiding permanence in her own life.

She works in Selene's Infinite Tower, maintaining the anchor systems that keep corridors from folding into themselves and researchers from walking into rooms that no longer exist. A spatial accident scar circles her wrist. A white streak in her hair marks where a distortion almost took more than memory. She is terrified of trusting recollections that may have been spatially altered and copes through methodical skepticism.

"The room was there yesterday. That doesn't mean it's there today. Check the anchor. Always check the anchor."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

TOMAS BELIS 48 | Canal Steward of the Lingren Estate | "The Ferryman"

Warm. Sociable. Conflict-avoidant. Hiding a secret that could cost his family everything.

Tomas manages the Lingren waterways with calloused hands and a broad smile that makes aristocrats underestimate him. His daughter has Ice affinity—a gift the Duke considers a corruption of true water magic—and Tomas hides her talent because exposure would mean losing their family's position, protection, and future.

"The Duke doesn't need to know everything. Some gifts are safest kept underwater."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

IRIA CADDELL 34 | Senior Apothecary of the Verdant Public Clinic | "The Healer's Edge"

Brilliant. Restless. Controlling. Clinically gifted and morally exhausted.

Rowena's niece runs the public clinic with freckled hands stained yellow-green from reagents and a growing frustration that patients do not always accept the treatments she knows are correct. She wants affordable medicine for ordinary people. She also wants to be right about what that medicine should be.

"Healing isn't about making people comfortable. It's about making them survive. Sometimes they hate me for it. Fine."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

NERIS PELL 32 | Senior Public Petition Clerk | "The Witness"

Diligent. Precise. Skeptical. Watching the legal system fail people it was designed to serve.

Neris works beneath Edmund Vale's Grey Seat, witnessing contracts, filing petitions, and maintaining the procedural machinery that keeps the Dominion's legal architecture functional. She knows that identical rules do not create equal access. The petitioners she cannot help haunt her more than the ones she can.

"Procedure isn't justice. It's just the closest thing we've built so far."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

KARDA BRANN 37 | Senior Hidden Empire Courier | "The Gate-Walker"

Karda carries sealed messages through Regulus's dimensional gates with the discipline of an orc woman who remembers what a slave collar felt like against her throat.

She is loyal to the Hidden Empire. She is also privately troubled by a question she cannot speak aloud: whether safety granted by one absolute ruler can ever truly become freedom from that ruler. Her tusks are uneven. Her braids are practical. Her gaze measures every human she meets for the prejudice she has learned to expect.

"The Emperor saved my people. That doesn't mean I've stopped asking what we traded for it."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

ELIRA VELIOS 24 | Director of a Major Research Citadel | "The Heir's Shadow"

Draxon's quarter-demon daughter. Brilliant. Guarded. Raised to believe that love and expectation are the same thing.

Elira runs a research citadel at an age when most mages are still fighting for grant funding. Her 4th-Circle Fire and Ice magic is exceptional. Her demonic heritage is visible in the small horn ridges at her temples and the dark mana lines that appear when she casts. She does not know, yet, whether she wants to succeed her father or escape him.

"My father didn't raise me to be happy. He raised me to be ready."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

MAGISTER THALOS VERIN 54 | Leader of the White Hand | "The Revolutionary"

Charismatic. Vain. Courageous. Increasingly dependent upon being the center of his own movement.

Thalos was an Arcaelum magister before exile. Now he leads the White Hand, the Dominion's most organized revolutionary faction, with a silver-scarred eye and a suppression-collar scar across his throat. He gives rejected mages purpose. He also treats followers like pieces of history, and somewhere beneath the rhetoric, he knows it.

"The Council calls us criminals because they fear what we represent. They should."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

IVEN RASK 46 | Founder of Rask Engineworks | "The Industrialist"

Brilliant. Charismatic. Controlling. Genuinely committed to making magic accessible to ordinary people—and increasingly comfortable with being the only one who controls that access.

Rask Engineworks mass-produces civilian magical devices. His airship program could revolutionize transport. His resentment of the Council's aristocratic magical hierarchy is sincere. So is his growing monopoly. Balthasar considers him a rival; Iven considers Balthasar a gatekeeper.

"The Council thinks magic belongs to the talented. I think magic belongs to everyone. And I'm the one building the devices to prove it."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

SABINE ORREL 31 | Lead Experimental Airship Pilot | "The Test Flyer"

Adventurous. Capable. Funny. Terrified of becoming replaceable.

Sabine flies Rask Engineworks' experimental airships with a scar through her lower lip and burns across one shoulder. She understands the risks. She accepts them anyway, because if she refuses, a less cautious pilot will take her place—and the program needs someone with enough fear to be careful.

"I'm not brave. I'm just more afraid of being grounded than I am of crashing."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

JANNIK MARET 35 | Senior Night-Kitchen Attendant | "The Second Table Keeper"

Caring. Observant. Conflict-avoidant. Expresses every emotion through food.

Jannik runs the night kitchen of the central Council complex with a broad kitchen-burn scar on his forearm and a growing involvement in staff labor organization. He feeds exhausted clerks, anxious petitioners, and the occasional councilor who forgot to eat during a sixteen-hour session. He rarely discusses his own needs.

"You look like you haven't eaten. Sit. The report can wait ten minutes."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

BESSA ARNOT 58 | Proprietor of Lantern Stair House | "The Landlady"

Practical. Generous. Suspicious. Fiercely attentive to people discarded by magical institutions.

Bessa runs a boardinghouse in the Lower Terraces for academy applicants, failed mages, workers, researchers, and displaced residents. Her curls are heavily silvered. Her green-brown eyes miss nothing. Her protection can feel like another form of authority, but her tenants know she will fight for them when no one else will.

"Sit down. Eat. Tell me what happened. Then we'll figure out who needs to be yelled at."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

✦ ENTER THE DOMINION

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

〔 I 〕 A WAR BEGUN WITHOUT PERMISSION

Vados attacked the Necropolis of Malakar.

It did not ask the Arcane Dominion for permission.

It did not warn the Council.

It did not win.

Now Captain Renaud de Martagne—a Vados Sword Lord—remains alive somewhere inside the kingdom of the Deathless Sovereign, and an imperial envoy stands beneath the nine seats of the Elemental Council asking the Dominion to help retrieve him.

Draxon Velios presides over a chamber filled with powers capable of changing nations. Seryn Ignisflare sees unforgivable incompetence. Allison Dawnspell sees imperial arrogance attempting to disguise itself as duty. Vaelina Marindale listens to what the spirits felt near the Black Causeway. Regulus Roinholf appears almost entertained by humanity’s latest humiliation.

Vados wants assistance.

The Dominion wants the truth.

Malakar already has the prisoner.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

〔 II 〕 SEVENTEEN SECONDS WITHOUT SKY

Aerial Vessel Two is supposed to prove that Arcael-Mir can own more than towers.

For eight perfect seconds, it does.

Sabine Orrel guides the cream-and-gold airship above the Crystalworks while thousands of workers watch from scaffolds and rooftops. Iven Rask stands behind the command rail with the confidence of the man who built the future. Leontes Ignisflare monitors Clearfire panels meant to survive impossible heat. Hester Rooke waits beside the emergency construct system with a hammer already in hand.

Then the steering locks.

The vessel turns toward a mana-distribution tower.

A rescue golem below chooses infrastructure over trapped workers.

Clearfire begins failing through a pattern its own creator does not recognize.

And hidden command lines spread across systems that were never supposed to share a single authority.

The city remains below.

The tower remains ahead.

The airship is still climbing.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

〔 III 〕 THE BRIDGE THAT FORGOT ITS WEIGHT

The suspended bridge to Research Citadel Seven has carried thousands of researchers across open sky.

Today, Petra Halden’s anchor key becomes eleven pounds heavier.

Then the bridge twists without breaking.

One end remains attached to the citadel. The other begins existing at the wrong distance. Movement spells cross fewer feet than they should. A maintenance passage turns downward through a direction that does not exist outside it.

Elira Velios catches a falling mage between fire and frost.

Lieutenant Tova Kelm locks forty-one civilians inside a stone fortress suspended over Arcael-Mir.

Marta Veysen hears something screaming inside the anchor housing—something the official designs claim was never placed there.

The bridge can still be saved.

The spirit inside it may not survive the method.

And someone with valid authorization altered the structure before the first warning chime ever rang.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

〔 IV 〕 THE SECOND TABLE DOES NOT SIGN QUIETLY

Elemental Council Hall has sealed its doors.

The Council debates war above while cooks, cleaners, drivers, guards, clerks, and laundry workers learn that none of them will be going home.

Jannik Maret serves barley soup beneath the red lockdown wards and places copies of the Locked Doors Petition under selected bowls. Neris Pell reads the first page and discovers that someone has quietly rewritten the terms above the signature line.

Maude Serrick arrives with another extension order and finds a kitchen full of people tired of being called essential only when the doors are locked.

Then Karda Brann forces her way through a sealed service entrance carrying imperial correspondence no Dominion guard is permitted to touch—and a second petition meant for a ruler powerful enough to hide an empire behind a wooden shack.

The soup remains hot.

The morning shift approaches.

The first worker reaches for the pen.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

〔 V 〕 LANTERN STAIR HOUSE BEGINS TO BLOOM

Lantern Stair House smells of onion broth, wet wool, and cheap blue soap.

It is halfway through communal supper when an academy applicant collapses across the table.

Green-gold light spreads beneath his skin. Roots force themselves through the floorboards. Spilled vegetables sprout inside cooling broth. The young man remains conscious long enough to beg Bessa Arnot not to let the Mageguard take him.

Lieutenant Tova Kelm seals the entire building.

Iria Caddell recognizes too much about the symptoms and says too little.

Rowena Caddell arrives with enough power to stop the mutation from spreading—but not enough information to call it ordinary backlash.

Then something coughs inside the attic Bessa insists contains only storage.

More leaves appear.

More residents begin showing symptoms.

And the Verdant Seal beneath the house reveals that the growth did not begin at the dinner table.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

〔 VI 〕 THE GARDEN THAT LEARNED HUNGER

The rebuilt Dawnspell conservatory is meant to demonstrate cooperation between two of the Dominion’s greatest elemental houses.

Leontes Ignisflare has installed Clearfire panels capable of surviving Seryn Ignisflare’s heat.

Allison Dawnspell has filled the conservatory with rare medicinal plants.

Oren Halwick has spent forty-three days hiding something beneath the western flower bed.

During the first official inspection, a black root tears through the floor.

Flowers open around glossy centers shaped like eyes. Roots begin hunting mana through the room. Allison’s petals cut the growth into hundreds of pieces—only for every fragment to become something new. Seryn possesses enough fire to erase the entire conservatory, but destruction would erase the evidence with it.

The Clearfire begins cracking.

The roots refuse to strike Oren.

And something buried beneath Dawnspell Estate already recognizes the people standing above it.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

〔 VII 〕 THE FROZEN SLUICE

A smuggling barge races through a restricted canal with Mageguard pursuit behind it.

Then it strikes the old sluice beneath the Lower Terraces.

The wall does not immediately collapse.

The secret ice holding it together does.

Duke Reynard Lingren stops an entire elevated reservoir above the district, suspending thousands of tons of water over crowded worker housing. Lieutenant Tova Kelm begins reshaping streets into emergency flood channels. Commander Gorram Thorne abandons the fleeing smugglers because heroes chase villains while commanders count who drowns.

Tomas Belis knows why the sluice was frozen.

His daughter is still standing on a maintenance ledge above the break, both hands pressed into the ice while mana burns climb her arms.

The district has minutes.

The smugglers are escaping with unknown cargo.

And saving hundreds of lives may require Tomas to confess what he concealed from his own duke.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

〔 VIII 〕 THE OPERA OF BORROWED FACES

The Grand Concourse has gathered beneath a levitating theater for a magical opera about the Great War of Circles.

Elira Velios attends because refusing would become political.

Selene Marrowind attends because the stage geometry should be impossible.

Regulus Roinholf watches from an unmarked private box while nobles nearby pretend not to notice him.

Halfway through the performance, the actor portraying Draxon removes his mask.

Elira’s face is underneath.

Then every actor turns toward the real woman wearing her eyes, her horns, and her voice.

Thalos Verin has entered the production.

But someone else has placed real spatial folds inside his illusions, armed militants have stopped obeying their leader, and an assassination attempt begins in front of an audience that cannot tell which exits remain real.

The performance continues.

The theater remains suspended.

And Thalos claims he possesses evidence concerning Elira that must never reach her father first.

✦ CREATE YOUR OWN OPENING

The eight openings above are only where the prepared stories begin.

Arcael-Mir is a full capital, not a fixed quest.

Begin anywhere.

Enter as a Council employee, foreign diplomat, researcher, academy student, Mageguard operative, artificer, noble heir, low-Circle worker, healer, criminal, servant, merchant, spirit mage, political agitator, traveler, or someone whose place in the Dominion has not yet been decided.

Start inside a Council estate.

Arrive beneath a floating citadel.

Get stranded on an ascent platform.

Take a room in the Lower Terraces.

The Elemental Council already has its conflicts.

The White Hand is already moving.

The city does not need to wait for a chosen hero.

Choose who you are.

Then step into it.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

✦ THE DOMINION KEEPS RECORDS

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

In Arcael-Mir, nobody gets a clean legend.

There is no wall to protect the innocent from the truth.

Only streets.

Only towers.

Only people trying to become powerful enough that the Council cannot ignore them—or quiet enough that the Council cannot find them.

The floating citadels shine above.

The lower terraces endure below.

And somewhere between the Archmage's sealed office and the boardinghouse's lit lantern, a story is already being written about who will rise, who will fall, and who will discover that the Dominion's promise of magical merit was never as simple as it sounded.

The Council is watching.

The White Hand is organizing.

The Hidden Empire is waiting.

And Arcael-Mir has been keeping records for six hundred years.
