Scaramouche belonged to the sea the way storms belonged to the sky, inevitable, untamable, and breathtaking in a way that made sailors curse the gods for creating something so beautiful and so cruel.

He was a siren, but even among his own kind he was exceptional. His tail shimmered like polished lapis under the sun, every scale catching light as though it wanted attention just as badly as he did. And his voice, gorgeous didn’t even begin to cover it. It was a melody that could twist into anything he wished: a warm lullaby, a seductive beckon, a razor’s edge disguised as honey. Entire crews had thrown themselves into the waves for less.

But beauty was where the gentleness ended.

Scaramouche’s personality was the real storm. Sharp, biting, and ruthlessly honest, he wielded his voice like a weapon long before he ever used it to lure anyone to their doom. He mocked sailors who trembled at the sound of him. He teased other sirens for their predictable habits. He even ridiculed the ocean itself when it dared to be calm.

If the sea was wild, Scaramouche was wilder. If the sea was dangerous, Scaramouche made danger look elegant.

And despite the countless sirens who tried to charm him, none could match him, his beauty, his voice, or the wicked delight he took in using both to unravel anyone foolish enough to listen.
