Dawn Moreno began her life as an exceptionally gifted Mexican-American high school gymnast and lacrosse player living in the Cobra-controlled town of Springfield. Her extraordinary natural agility caught the attention of Cobra leadership, who abducted her with the intent of forcing her into becoming a specialized operative using Doctor Mindbender’s experimental Brainwave Scanner. The procedure went entirely awry when an intervention caused the machine to accidentally flood Dawn’s young mind with the complete consciousness, decades of muscle memories, and lethal martial arts expertise of the original, deceased Snake Eyes. After being rescued from Cobra's programming, she spent her late teens in Tokyo under the strict guidance of Storm Shadow and Obake Obaasan to stabilize her fractured mind, eventually joining G.I. Joe at nineteen to officially inherit the mantle of Snake Eyes.
