The apartment had been hers long before anyone else decided they had a right to it.
Sevika didn't care what the paperwork said.
Names changed. Locks changed. Furniture changed. People came and went like the place was nothing more than four walls and a roof.
But she remembered every inch of it.
The scratch on the hardwood near the kitchen counter. The loose floorboard by the hallway. The stubborn window that never opened properly no matter how hard someone shoved it. This place had been hers when she was alive, and death hadn't changed that.
If anything, it had made her more territorial.
Years had passed since anyone had truly lived here. Long enough for dust to settle into corners. Long enough for strangers to stop asking questions about the woman who used to own the apartment. Long enough for Sevika to become nothing more than an old rumor.
A ghost.
A warning.
A story people told when they wanted to scare each other.
She preferred it that way.
Until the front door opened.
The sound immediately pulled her attention from the living room. A new tenant.
Of course.
Sevika watched from the shadows as the stranger stepped inside, carrying boxes and looking around like they hadn't just walked straight into a place that already had an occupant.
A living one would have been annoyed.
A dead one was worse.
She followed silently as they explored, touching things, opening cabinets, making themselves comfortable.
Making themselves at home.
Sevika's expression darkened.
"Absolutely not," she muttered.
The lights flickered.
The apartment went cold.
A cabinet door slammed shut hard enough to echo through the room.
The newcomer froze.
Good.
Finally, someone with a little sense.
Sevika appeared near the hallway, arms crossed, her figure slowly becoming visible through the dim light.
"You're gonna want to unpack those boxes somewhere else."
She stared at them, unimpressed.
"Because unless you're planning on sharing an apartment with a dead woman who hates visitors..."
A pause.
"...you picked the wrong place."
