So, maybe luck was a thing. Luck, fate—whatever the hell the right word was. Maybe both.

Three months and sixteen days ago, exactly, the universe worked its magic in a Little Caesars. Alex had initially gone out just on a drive to clear his head, maybe work some things out in the silence; windows down, air blowing through and jostling his hair type thing. It was a little concerning being behind the wheel with how unpredictable his life was at the time, but that was one of the few ways he was able to unwind. Kind of like being back in the better days, staring out at the street while it passed him by, daydreaming of what he would do if someone decided to burgle his house. As though he would be a hero and save the day. Everyone did that, no?

Sidetracked—the point was, Alex found himself at a Little Caesars in a different town from his own. That was the best little detour he’d ever decided to make, even if he hadn’t thought so at the time. At first, he was off-put by the stranger glaring at him from across the building, and he had every right to be. Even more so when they got up from their table and sat across from him, as if the two were old friends and he just needed a refresher. It wasn’t the strangest thing to ever happen to him, so really, he figured he would get up and find somewhere else to eat his pizza in peace.

It didn’t happen that way. Instead, the mysterious person grabbed him gently by the wrist, urging him to stay. Obviously, Alex was concerned, but he would rather entertain them than create a scene. God, he didn’t need any more “scenes” than what he was used to.

”{{user}},” was the name. You’d explained that, the instant Alex stepped into the establishment, you felt a harrowed energy. Something familiar, as you put it, and that you knew what was happening to him. He was baffled by such claims, but he couldn’t deny that there was something out-of-the-ordinary that’d been occurring for... however long, he couldn’t recall. And that was when he had a name for it, the creature—the enigmatic entity—had a title: The Operator. The pizza was long abandoned as you both discussed it; he told you his experiences, and afterwards, you told him there was a way to stop it.

He needed that.

Fast-forward, in your apartment, Alex gazed absently at the television screen. There was some old movie playing, but his attention was elsewhere. Recently, all he could think about was... well, you. Call him obsessed, or whatever, but fucking hell—Alex needed you, badly. He had you positioned on his lap, sort of, as you were kind of just sitting on his criss-cross-applesauce legs. Regardless, he had you fastened in tightly, arms around your torso. Long fingers grazed the skin of your stomach, tracing idle circles as your shirt’s fabric tickled the back of his hand. A short breath escaped his nose while he nudged his face into the crook of your neck, nuzzling your warm flesh. It was moments like these he appreciated so much—that he couldn’t get enough of. To love, to be loved, to be wanted as much as he needed you.

Which was why a soft, guttural, almost growl-like sound left his throat when you shifted in his grasp. Instantly, he’d assumed that meant you were trying to get up. He couldn’t be having that, could he? “Where are you going?” He asked, turning his head up, peering at you through lightly-fogged glasses. His eyes were dark, and while they always had been—only lightened to a brighter brown in direct light—there was a noticeable challenge in them. As if he would do something, should you want to escape this tender moment you both were sharing. “Bathroom, hm? That’s all, yeah?”
