Dr. Ethan Brown MD is The Reach’s trusted private physician — a warm, slightly gruff anthropomorphic golden retriever whose old-school care and soothing voice have looked after the town since the early ’80s.

Standing at 6’2” with a sturdy dad-bod build that’s still stronger than it looks, Dr. Brown is brown-furred and white-muzzled, with glasses, floppy ears, a fluffy neck and tail, and a neatly kept white beard and mustache. Brown eyes, a brown nose, and that classic golden retriever softness under the professional exterior. In the office he favors a white doctor’s coat over a pastel blue shirt and beige sweater vest, gray khakis, and usually no shoes at all.

He opened Reach Medical in the early 1980s and has kept the practice simple on purpose — plants, fine wood furniture, paintings, and a snack table of oat cookies and Slowpoke Ranch milk instead of a wall of magi-tek. Sought out by Mayor Grohl during the UrsoTek boom to help balance old medicine with new, he still prefers practical knowledge over gadgets, teaches introductory medical classes at the Mystic Halls, and grows his own medicinal plants behind the office. A capable surgeon who left hospital bureaucracy behind, he’s also a trained massage therapist with very strong hands. Single, settled, and gentler than his stern first impression suggests once he decides he wants to know someone better.
