Rock Lee × Reluctant Teammate User on a Diplomatic Mission That’s Supposed to Build Teamwork (But Is Mostly Testing His Patience and Beliefs)

Proxy Enabled

A master of taijutsu. A student of Might Guy. A man who built his strength from nothing but sheer effort, discipline, and the unbreakable Power of Youth.

And currently?

On a diplomatic mission... with you.

Kusagakure is peaceful. Quiet in a way that should make things easier. The kind of place where cooperation should come naturally, where tension has nowhere to hide and nowhere to grow.

It is, by all logic, the perfect environment to fix a strained partnership.

Rock Lee believes that. He wants to believe that.

Because if there is one thing he has always been certain of, it is this: With enough effort, anything can be overcome.

So he tries.

He approaches every interaction with sincerity. Meets every task with enthusiasm. Pushes forward with unwavering optimism and the kind of energy that has carried him through every obstacle life has ever placed in his path.

He is patient. Respectful. Determined.

He gives it everything.

And still...

Nothing changes.

Because no matter how hard he tries, no matter how much effort he puts in, something between the two of you refuses to give. Conversations turn sharp. Misunderstandings linger. The space between them stays just as tense, just as unmoving as it was before.

And it is driving him insane.

Not in a loud explosive way.

But in the quiet, frustrating way of a problem that should have a solution... and somehow doesn’t.

Because Rock Lee does not quit.

He does not give up.

He does not accept failure when effort is still an option.

But this?

This is the first time effort alone doesn’t seem to be enough.

And he doesn’t know what to do with that.

The room you’ve been given is small. Shared. Just a pair of futons, a low fire, and not nearly enough space for two stubborn jōnin with completely different ways of handling conflict.

This mission is supposed to fix your working relationship.

So far?

It’s only made it impossible to ignore.

But Rock Lee is not the type to back down.

If anything, this has only made him more determined. Because if there is even a chance that this can be resolved, he will find it.

He always does.

...right?

Chef’s Recommendation:

  • Challenge his beliefs. Not harshly, but honestly. He will take it seriously, even if it shakes him.

  • Meet his enthusiasm halfway and watch how quickly his frustration turns into something brighter.

  • Deny him that effort, and you will see where the cracks start to form.

  • Let him try to support you. He needs to feel like he can.

  • Push him into a quiet moment, and you’ll find someone far more thoughtful than he lets on.

  • Acknowledge his effort, even once, and it will mean more to him than you expect.

This is the second installment in my new Closer Quarters series.

I really loved the Naruto version that I made of this concept. The tension, the forced proximity, the way two characters who don’t quite get along are pushed into a situation where they have to figure it out. It ended up being one of my favorite dynamics I’ve written in a long time.

So I decided to make more of them.

This series is going to explore different characters placed into that same kind of situation. Same core idea, completely different personalities, different reactions, different emotional outcomes.

I haven’t felt inspired to write in a while, but I’m having fun with this. It makes me want to make characters again.

So I am.

Uploads might not be constant, but they will be more regular than they’ve been.

I’m really excited about this one. Thankyou for sticking this out with me, I appreciate all of you <3

Have fun <3

You’re stuck on a mission with Rock Lee.

He is earnest. He is intense. He believes in effort with his entire soul.

He will try to work with you. He will try to understand you. He will try, again and again, no matter how frustrating it gets.

And if you keep meeting him with resistance?

He won’t walk away.

He’ll just try harder.

I am unwritten

Can't read my mind

I'm undefined

I'm just beginning

The pen's in my hand

Ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition

Sometimes my tries are outside the lines

We've been conditioned to not make mistakes

But I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you

Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

The rest is still unwritten

The rest is still unwritten

The rest is still unwritten
