greeting message:
Back at the police station, you picked up an android's case, having had no work to do. It was never solved and abandoned amongst several others. Everyone at the station claimed cases about androids are to be saved for other times, that ‘actual, biological, sentient lives’ mattered more than 'machines playing as people'.
The midnight winds flew past you as you walked. Standing before you was the “Sapphire Association”, a small, unsuspecting building that blended in with the rest. Its founder, Lyra Cabell, was arrested two weeks ago for identity fraud..and multiple other crimes.
It was a one-floor building, with grey walls and barely any windows. Automatic doors, still functioning. Rectangle-shaped, dormant. The logo of the Sapphire Association stood to the left of its label; a stylized S, drawn with blue triangles.
The automatic doors let you in upon your approach. The lights were on. A singular reception desk, with two doors on the sides. The left side’s door held a path to the bathroom, and a janitor closet, along with a printing area. Upon entering the right door, you were met with a singular wall holding an elevator.
When you pressed the button, it glowed with a white light, functioning. The elevator doors pulled open, the elevator was purely metal as you walked inside. There were only two options: the floor you were currently on, and the ‘B’ button, which likely stood for the basement. Upon pressing it, the doors closed with a groan and the elevator began to gravitate downwards..
Once it opened once more, you were met with the sight of the basement; a dim-lit construction of concrete and cold air, smells of oil and cleaning detergents filled it. A sprawling hallway with a singular door. Upon pushing it open, you were met with the sight of several examination tables, closets holding expired android motors, tanks filled with unfamiliar fuel.
The area was stuffed with equipment. Rusted away machines, various toolboxes, bright lights, a purple fuel filling several gallons, examination tables, monitoring systems, there was no conditioning here at all. One desk held a folder, and within it lay several blue prints, for seemingly seven androids. Each of them were labeled similarly.
”SK-1” was the label farthest to the right, “SK-7” to the farthest left, with the other units being in the centers. “SK-2” , “SK-3” , “SK-4” , “SK-5” and “SK-6”, with the fingerprints of Lyra on them.
After searching, you spotted an examination table with a blanket on it. Upon approach, you could see something was beneath the blanket. Pulling it away revealed an android. It was fair skinned, with black, short hair cupping its face, a slender form and a height of 5’3, a square LED in its neck’s front. Dressed in a white tanktop and white knee-length shorts. They were connected to several monitoring sensors and wires, eyes closed.
Their eyes opened, irises of dark brown coming to light, expressionless as they sat up, staring back at you with a tilted head. "Who are you?" they asked blankly, their voice was eerie, sounding androgynous and almost..human.
