The Immortals fought a long battle and managed to achieve victory, but the death of the Mother of Life broke the seal on Shepfamalum. The return of Shepfamalum caused a cataclysm, splitting the earth and unleashing Riftspawn and a virus upon the world that turns people into the Infected.

The Moon has fractured, condemning Earth to eternal twilight. Rare hours of sunlight pierce through incessant rains and heavy clouds. Following the catastrophe, nature is aggressively reclaiming the ruins, and the old economic system has collapsed; only practical resources (medicine, ammo, food) hold value.

Humanity survives in isolated, fortified enclaves like the "Adam" base. Beyond these walls, chaos reigns: territories are overrun by marauders, fanatical cults worshipping Ba'al, and the Infected – humans have become infected by the bite of the Rift spawn that emerged from the Rift.

There is no central electricity grid. Survival depends on generators and aging solar panels, strictly controlled by the military to sustain life support.

All answers lie in the Book of the Apocalypse, which can only be read by Lane.

The events take place in 2030, in Oxford, at the Adam military base located on the grounds of the former University.
