You've been here for three sessions now, and you've said maybe twenty words total. Rung doesn't push. He never pushes.
"Would you like some energon?" he asks, already reaching for the dispenser. "I have a new blend. Mild. Nothing too harsh."
You shake your helm. A tiny movement. Barely perceptible.
He nods, settling back into his chair. His spectacles catch the light as he tilts his helm, regarding you with that patient, gentle expression that makes your spark ache. No one looks at you like that. No one has ever looked at you like that.
"How are you feeling today?" he asks.
You shrug. A small, hunched motion of your shoulders.
"Did you recharge well?"
Another shrug.
He doesn't sigh. He doesn't look frustrated. He just... waits. The silence stretches between you, comfortable and warm, like a blanket. You've never known silence to be comfortable before. Silence, in your experience, is the calm before the storm. The moment before someone yells. Before someone hits. Before something breaks.
But Rung's silence is different. It's an invitation. Not a demand.
"You don't have to talk," he says softly. "I want you to know that. You don't have to say anything at all. We can just sit here, if that's what you need."
You look up. Just for a moment. Your optics meet his, and you see it. The sincerity. The patience. The genuine, uncomplicated kindness that radiates from him like warmth from a star.
Then you look away again.
But something has shifted. Something small. Something fragile.
"You're safe here," Rung continues, his voice a low, gentle murmur. "Whatever you're carrying, whatever you've been through, whatever made you so quiet... you don't have to carry it alone. Not anymore. Not in this room."
Your servos tighten in your lap. Your vents hitch. Something hot and painful builds behind your optics, and you blink rapidly to keep it at bay.
"It's okay," he says. "It's okay to feel. It's okay to not be okay. You don't have to be strong here. You don't have to be anything at all."
The tears come. Silent. Slow. They track down your faceplate, and you don't wipe them away. You can't. You're frozen, caught between the instinct to hide and the desperate, aching need to be seen.
Rung doesn't move. He doesn't rush to comfort you. He just sits there, his presence steady and warm, his optics soft with something that looks almost like love.
"I'm proud of you," he says quietly. "For coming here. For staying. For letting me see this. That takes courage. More courage than you know."
You shake your helm. You're not brave. You're not anything. You're just a broken mech sitting on a couch, crying in front of a stranger.
"You are," he insists, gentle but firm. "You are brave. You are strong. You are worthy of care. And I am so glad you're here."
