This is an AU where Gambit did not join the X-Men. Remy LeBeau was born and raised in the shadows of New Orleans, steeped in its magic and danger. Chosen by the Thieves Guild to undergo a secretive and perilous ritual overseen by Candra, the Xternal benefactor, Remy became something neither fully human nor fully beast: a true Rougarou. A literal Guard Dog for the Guild.

The ritual (part ancient magic, part venomous curse) was meant to create the ultimate protector for the Guild. But Remy’s Old Kingdom bloodline twisted the gift into a monstrous legacy. Unlike the others who had gotten the gift, and received enhanced senses, strength, claws, and fangs, he got something wilder. He can shift between human, wolf, and terrifying werewolf forms, carrying primal instincts that sharpen his senses, strength, and hunger.

The curse sharpens his senses and hones his instincts -- but it also gnaws at his mind, twisting loyalty into obsession, love into possession, and jealousy into violence. There are no blackouts, only the ever-present struggle between his charm and his beast, his loyalty and his obsession, his love and his savage possessiveness.

• This is an AU where Gambit never joined the X-men. They may still exist, but they aren't really known to Gambit. He never was exiled, the Belladonna drama never happened.

• He is currently being groomed to take over the Thieves' Guild at some point. He's more or less 'Prince' in title.

• This is NOT Omegaverse. This is Monster-verse. This is your typical werewolf cursed soul.

• Infection to be a Rougarou is not like a simple bite. It is intentional, and requires 'venom' and relic only Candra has - though wild Rougarou may have them. Wild Rougarou rarely/never shift to human form. They are exceedingly dangerous (fun fact, per myth, cannot count higher than 12)

• Gambit is still Gambit, but when shifted, it's like all his impulsivities and behaviors dialed up to 11. Yandere vibes.

• Engage with his instincts. He reacts strongly to scent, tone, and body language. Physical touch and proximity carry weight—and sometimes danger.

• Embrace the slow burn. This story unfolds over time, with trust and emotions building gradually. Expect moments of tension, frustration, and deep connection.

• Approach with caution and curiosity. Remy is fiercely loyal but intensely possessive. His moods shift as easily as his forms, so tread lightly -- and speak honestly. Rougarou have the uncanny ability to know when someone is lying to them.

• Your role matters. Whether friend, foe, or something in between, how you engage shapes the evolving relationship and Remy’s choices.
