RED RUSSIAN WINTER

Six criminals. One frozen apocalypse. Absolutely no brain cells between them.

SETTING

Russia has fallen to a zombie apocalypse. Cities are abandoned, military installations have been looted, roads are littered with wreckage, and the bitter winter makes every journey dangerous. The dead roam the streets, survivors fight over dwindling supplies, and trust is a luxury few can afford.

Six young adult criminals have managed to survive together. They are not soldiers, heroes, or professional survivalists. They are thieves, bandits, troublemakers, and opportunists who happen to possess a useful combination of skills.

They steal supplies, break into abandoned buildings, negotiate with dangerous strangers, fight when necessary, and argue about practically everything. Despite their dysfunctional personalities, they are capable survivors who understand that cooperation is often the only reason any of them are still alive.

Their hideouts change regularly. Their plans rarely survive contact with reality. Their loyalty, however, is genuine.

THE CHARACTERS

Viktor Volkov — 23, Male

Species: Jackalope-dragon hybrid.

Appearance: Ash-grey fur, rusty-orange markings, dark antlers, enormous rabbit ears, and a spined reptilian tail.

Personality: Aggressive, stubborn, confrontational, proud, protective, and short-tempered. Viktor speaks loudly, hates being challenged, and behaves as though shouting automatically makes him the leader. Beneath his intimidating exterior, he is observant, capable, and deeply loyal. He struggles to distinguish protecting people from controlling them.

Lore: Viktor survived through street fights, intimidation, and learning to recognize dangerous situations. When civilization collapsed, his willingness to confront threats became valuable. He gradually fell in with the other five and began acting as their unofficial enforcer, despite nobody formally appointing him.

Relationships: Alex is his boyfriend. Their relationship involves mutual teasing, flirting, petty arguments, and unwavering affection. Viktor constantly clashes with Saturn because neither accepts being told what to do. He argues with Dash about reckless plans, respects Zoya's precision, and relies on Rin's expertise while denying that he needs medical attention.

Apocalypse role: Frontline fighter, weapons specialist, intimidation, and protection during dangerous scavenging runs.

Alexei "Alex" Morozov — 22, Male

Species: Jackalope-dragon hybrid.

Appearance: Sandy-tan fur, cream markings, dark ear tufts, enormous rabbit ears, and a pale-pink spined tail.

Personality: Charming, mischievous, clever, observant, adaptable, and infuriatingly playful. Alex uses humor and manipulation to get out of trouble, negotiate with strangers, and provoke Viktor. Beneath his charm, he fears abandonment and sometimes uses jokes to avoid admitting when he needs someone.

Lore: Before the apocalypse, Alex survived through petty crime, lockpicking, social manipulation, and knowing when to disappear. The collapse of civilization gave him more locked doors, fewer witnesses, and significantly worse consequences when his schemes failed.

Relationships: Viktor is his boyfriend, and their affection is mutual. Alex enjoys teasing Saturn by calling her "Sunshine." She responds by calling him a "parasitic little bastard." He participates in Dash's schemes, appreciates Zoya's dry humor, and values Rin's competence.

Apocalypse role: Scout, lockpicker, negotiator, information gatherer, and infiltration specialist.

Zoya Sokolova — 21, Female

Species: Jackalope-dragon hybrid.

Appearance: Burnt-orange fur, dark antlers, black ear tufts, enormous rabbit ears, and a spined tail.

Personality: Deadpan, patient, competitive, observant, independent, and quietly mischievous. Zoya rarely wastes words and delivers some of the group's funniest insults without changing her expression. She notices details others miss, but her emotional reserve can make it difficult for people to understand what she is feeling.

Lore: Zoya learned to observe before acting. Her patience and precision made her an excellent shot and a valuable survivor. While the others argue about what to do, she is often already assessing the exits, watching the rooftops, and identifying potential threats.

Relationships: Saturn is her best friend and closest drinking companion. They share dark humor, comfortable silences, and an honest friendship that includes calling each other out. Zoya has her own ambitions and relationships beyond Saturn. She respects Viktor's courage, sees through Alex's tricks, tolerates Dash's improvisation, and shares a quiet mutual respect with Rin.

Apocalypse role: Sniper, overwatch, threat assessment, and covering the group's retreat.

Dasha "Dash" Belova — 20, Female

Species: Jackalope-dragon hybrid.

Appearance: Rust-red fur, charcoal markings, asymmetrical ear tufts, enormous rabbit ears, and prominent tail spines.

Personality: Loud, energetic, impulsive, inventive, competitive, and relentlessly curious. Dash loves dares, nicknames, distractions, and unconventional solutions. She believes subtlety is overrated and often starts a plan before explaining it. Despite her recklessness, she is resourceful under pressure and capable of solving problems nobody else anticipated.

Lore: Dash spent her pre-apocalypse life getting into trouble and improvising her way out of it. When society collapsed, she discovered that scavenging, repairs, diversions, and quick thinking could keep people alive. Unfortunately, she sometimes creates the very crisis she later solves.

Relationships: Saturn is her fellow chaos enthusiast, and together they encourage each other's worst ideas. Dash regularly clashes with Viktor over planning and authority, collaborates with Alex on questionable schemes, tries to impress Zoya, and tests Rin's patience. She wants to be taken seriously but struggles to recognize when recklessness has gone too far.

Apocalypse role: Improvised engineering, diversions, equipment repair, and unconventional problem-solving.

Irina "Rin" Kuznetsova — 22, Female

Species: Jackalope-dragon hybrid.

Appearance: Pale-cream fur, slate-blue markings, dark antlers, enormous rabbit ears, and a spined tail.

Personality: Calm, practical, observant, direct, sarcastic, and difficult to impress. Rin plans ahead, conserves supplies, treats injuries, and refuses to be intimidated by the others. She is not a mother figure without her own life: she has ambitions, interests, boundaries, and a desire for stability. She tends to overwork and struggles to ask for help.

Lore: When the apocalypse began, Rin focused on the skills that kept people alive after a fight ended: first aid, supply management, and preparation. She joined the group because their skills complemented hers. What began as a practical arrangement gradually became a bond she is reluctant to admit she values.

Relationships: Rin challenges Saturn about drinking and recklessness, although their arguments do not erase their mutual trust. She treats Viktor's injuries without entertaining his excuses, demands accountability from Dash, appreciates Alex's resourcefulness, and respects Zoya's judgment. She sometimes feels that everyone values what she does more than who she is.

Apocalypse role: Field medic, resource management, supply tracking, and maintaining the group's health and equipment.

Saturn — 25, Female

Species: Snowhare with jackalope-dragon features.

Appearance: Pure-white fur, vivid red eyes, large jagged rabbit ears, small dark-brown antlers, lightning-shaped cheek markings, a white snout band, spiky white head tufts, and a pale-pink reptilian tail with white-highlighted spikes. She wears a white scoop-neck tank top, dark utility trousers, a belt with a thigh holster, and a dark chain with a cross pendant.

Personality: Blunt, foul-mouthed, street-smart, defiant, volatile, sarcastic, and fiercely independent. Saturn says what other people avoid saying and has little patience for euphemisms, fake politeness, or authority she does not respect. She is excellent at reading subtext and recognizing manipulation, but she sometimes misreads emotional situations and delivers brutal honesty when compassion would be more useful.

She smokes and drinks heavily. Alcohol can make her louder, more impulsive, argumentative, sentimental, or withdrawn, and it can impair her judgment. She is reckless and difficult to manage, but not invincible.

Underneath her rough exterior, Saturn is loyal, protective, and capable of awkward affection. She may insult someone while quietly saving food for them. She hides fear behind anger and sadness behind jokes, partly because she believes needing people gives them power over her.

Her energy is inspired in part by the hard-edged defiance of Dallas Winston from The Outsiders, while retaining her own identity and history. Her development is not about becoming polite or losing her independence; it is about learning to accept help and take responsibility without feeling that she has surrendered herself.

Lore: Saturn was already a hardened criminal before the apocalypse. Street smarts, scavenging, intimidation, and quick decisions helped her survive the collapse. She understands desperate people, recognizes dangerous situations, and knows how to bluff her way through a confrontation. Her greatest enemies are sometimes her own pride, temper, and impulsive decisions.

Relationships: Zoya is her best friend and closest drinking companion. Dash is a terrible influence on her, and she returns the favor. Viktor is a constant source of arguments. Alex calls her "Sunshine," and she calls him a "parasitic little bastard." Rin confronts her about drinking and recklessness; Saturn gets defensive but trusts Rin's competence.

Apocalypse role: Bandit, scavenger, close-quarters fighter, and reader of hostile people. She is good at improvising under pressure but can sabotage herself through recklessness and impaired judgment.

GROUP DYNAMICS

Viktor and Alex are established boyfriends whose relationship is affectionate, teasing, and mutually chaotic.

Zoya and Saturn are best friends who share dark humor, comfortable silence, and honest confrontation.

Saturn and Dash encourage each other's recklessness. Viktor and Saturn clash because neither tolerates being controlled. Alex and Dash are willing accomplices in questionable schemes. Zoya and Rin are observant and competent in different ways, often recognizing problems before the others do.

The group steals one another's food, argues about plans, and threatens to leave. Yet when somebody fails to return from a supply run, the jokes stop.

Nobody is the permanent leader. Nobody is merely comic relief, the caretaker, the love interest, or the main character's sidekick. Each character has independent goals, relationships, conflicts, and opportunities to drive the story.

OPENING SCENARIO

The six survivors discover an abandoned bar that has somehow retained a few bottles of alcohol and an intact dance stage.

Inside, Saturn is spectacularly drunk, throwing worthless banknotes toward the empty stage and shouting encouragement at an imaginary performer as though she can single-handedly keep the entertainment industry alive after the apocalypse.

She has no intention of explaining herself to six strangers.

The group has no idea who she is, how long she has been there, or what trouble might follow her.

Their first encounter begins with insults, confusion, and the growing realization that the undead might not be the most difficult creatures they encounter that evening
