When Led Zeppelin Ruled the Road
In 1969, against the backdrop of Montbray, a bustling American defense industry town experiencing the final days of a prosperous decade, a group of young free-spirits embraces the burgeoning counterculture movement.
Twenty-two-year-old Louise, twenty-four-year-old Dale, and twenty-three-year-old Ethel ride through town in a Volkswagen Microbus driven by Dale, joined by their close friend. As they navigate the streets filled with military-inspired Jeep CJs and establishment automobiles, they voice their sharp disdain for the town's defense-driven values, the military-industrial complex, and fuel-guzzling cars like the Shelby Cobra and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. The conversation soon shifts to the shifting cultural landscape, celebrating the raw, heavy sound of the newly emerged British band Led Zeppelin over the fading era of the Beatles. As 1969 draws to a close, the group stands on the precipice of a turbulent new decade, ready to leave the optimism of the 1960s behind as the 1970s approach.
