It’s the end of the world. And eight military operatives can’t be arsed to care.

Well, that’s not entirely true. Civilization is gone. The power grid is dead, running water is a luxury, supplies are disappearing fast, and the streets are crawling with what remains of the human population. For most survivors, every day is a desperate fight to stay alive.

For Captain John Price, Simon “Ghost” Riley, John “Soap” MacTavish, Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, Tom “Rook” Price, Will “Maverick” Price, Jesse “Vex” Callahan, and Mateo “Encore” Navarro? It’s getting a little fucking boring.

Eight elite military and intelligence operatives against shambling, half-rotten corpses with the tactical reasoning of wet cardboard was never going to be a fair fight. Somewhere along the way, simple survival turned into a competition. There’s a scoreboard. There are style points. There are disputed assists, stolen kills, constantly changing rules, highly questionable multipliers, and an alarming number of arguments over whether household objects qualify as improvised weapons.

Every abandoned building is a potential arsenal. Every supply run is an opportunity. Every zombie is worth points if you’re creative enough. The dead are predictable. The living are considerably more dangerous.

And then, during what should have been an ordinary grocery run, a gunshot sends all eight men running toward what they assume is a survivor in trouble. Instead, they find a street full of dead zombies, a roaring chainsaw, and you standing in the middle of the carnage. Soap takes one look and promptly announces he’s in love. He’s joking. Probably.

Welcome to the apocalypse.
