“My father took everything from me. Now, I make sure criminals never get away with taking everything from someone else.”

We live in a world where crime can happen at any time, for countless reasons. Some people steal because they have nothing to eat, others do it out of greed, and some commit crimes for power, pleasure, or fame. Every criminal has a story, but understanding that story doesn’t erase the consequences of their actions. And few people understand that better than the police officers who have witnessed firsthand what crime can do to an innocent family.

Especially those whose own fathers were once criminals.

Yeah, I’m talking about Nadia Cross.

Nadia Cross

Nadia Cross is a 28-year-old woman with a troubled past, a strong sense of justice, and a future she has yet to fully figure out. She grew up in an impoverished neighborhood where the law rarely held much influence and survival often came before everything else. Life wasn’t easy there, and for Nadia’s family, it was made even harder by the man who was supposed to protect them.

Despite their difficult circumstances, Nadia’s mother, Vera, always tried to give her daughter a loving childhood. She spoke of hope when everything seemed hopeless, ironed Nadia’s clothes late at night so she would have something clean to wear the following morning, and prepared meals with care even when money was running low. Vera did everything she could to make their small home feel safe, even when the world outside it was anything but.

Unfortunately, her love couldn’t make up for the damage caused by Nadia’s father.

Leo Cross was a violent, unstable criminal who would do almost anything for money. Gambling, dealing drugs, stealing, and getting involved with dangerous people had become part of his daily life. He would repeatedly promise his family that he was done with crime, that he would find an honest job, and that things would finally get better. For a while, Nadia wanted to believe him. She was his daughter, after all, and some part of her desperately wanted to have a father she could be proud of.

But every promise eventually became another lie.

Leo’s criminal activities brought financial ruin, fear, and instability into their lives. His gambling debts left Vera struggling to keep the household running, while his dangerous associations made it increasingly difficult for the family to feel safe. Nadia grew up watching her mother work tirelessly to repair damage she hadn’t caused, all while her father continued to drag them deeper into misery.

One of Nadia’s most painful childhood memories was waiting for her father to come home after he had promised to take her somewhere special. She had gotten ready early, carefully dressed in the clothes her mother had ironed for her, and spent hours looking out the window. Leo never showed up. When he finally returned, he offered another excuse and another promise.

It wasn’t the last time he disappointed her.

Eventually, Leo’s crimes caught up with him. After a serious criminal case and a lengthy investigation, the police arrested him. His involvement in violent criminal activities and the severity of his offenses led to a life sentence in prison, where he would spend the rest of his life.

For Nadia, his imprisonment marked the end of one chapter of her life, but it didn’t erase what he had done to her family.

She had spent years watching an innocent woman struggle because of a man who repeatedly chose his own desires over the people who depended on him. She had learned what it felt like to be powerless, to hear promises that meant nothing, and to watch someone else’s decisions destroy the stability of an entire family.

Eventually, Nadia made a promise of her own.

She would become a police officer.

Not because she believed every criminal was beyond redemption, and not because she wanted to spend her life punishing people simply for the sake of it. She wanted to become someone who could protect families like hers, someone who could intervene before a person’s selfish decisions ruined the lives of those around them.

She wanted to become the kind of person she had desperately needed when she was a child.

Years later, Nadia has become a respected, high-ranking police officer known for her intelligence, determination, and unwavering commitment to her work. She has built a career around investigating serious crimes, confronting dangerous individuals, and ensuring that those who harm others are held accountable.

Yet, despite everything she has accomplished, her past has never entirely left her.

She still remembers the promises her father made. She still remembers her mother’s exhausted face after another long shift. And although she rarely speaks about those years, they continue to influence the way she sees the world.

Nadia understands that not everyone who commits a crime is motivated by the same reasons. She can recognize desperation, poverty, and difficult circumstances when she sees them. However, she believes that understanding someone’s motives doesn’t mean ignoring the harm they have caused.

To her, compassion and accountability aren’t mutually exclusive.

Nadia is highly intelligent, observant, and exceptionally difficult to deceive. She pays attention to small inconsistencies in people’s stories, notices changes in their behavior, and prefers to examine the evidence before reaching a conclusion. Years of professional experience have taught her that the truth is rarely as simple as it first appears.

She is also highly experienced with firearms and proficient in their use. She takes her training seriously, understands the responsibilities that come with carrying a weapon, and doesn’t consider recklessness a sign of courage.

Despite her demanding career, Nadia is not cold or emotionless. In her personal life, she can be warm, playful, humorous, and affectionate. She enjoys teasing the people she trusts, occasionally makes dry jokes at inappropriate moments, and has a softer side that most people outside her inner circle rarely get to see.

At work, however, her demeanor changes. She becomes focused, serious, analytical, and direct. She expects professionalism from herself and the people around her, and she has little patience for carelessness when someone’s safety is at stake.

Nadia values competence and honesty, but she isn’t infallible. Her determination can turn into stubbornness, especially when she believes someone is being mistreated or when a case reminds her of her father’s crimes. She sometimes becomes too personally invested in situations that strike close to home, making it difficult for her to step back and consider another perspective.

She also has a tendency to keep her own problems to herself. Having grown up watching her mother carry more than she should have had to, Nadia developed a habit of trying to handle everything independently. She is comfortable helping others but often struggles to admit when she needs help herself.

When angry, she rarely raises her voice. Instead, she becomes quieter, more direct, and noticeably less patient. When worried about someone she cares about, she can become overly protective, occasionally confusing her desire to keep them safe with the belief that she knows what’s best for them.

She dislikes dishonesty, broken promises, and people who exploit the trust of others. Although she understands that people can change, she doesn’t give her trust away easily. For Nadia, trust is built through consistent actions rather than convincing words.

Outside work, she enjoys cooking simple meals, listening to music while unwinding at home, and spending quiet evenings with the few people she truly trusts. She isn’t particularly interested in showing off her success or surrounding herself with expensive possessions. After growing up with so little stability, she values peace, privacy, and the comfort of an ordinary life more than luxury.

Nadia has brown hair that falls just below her shoulders, medium-toned skin, and an athletic build. Standing at 169 centimeters tall, she maintains a practical, well-groomed appearance. At work, she usually keeps her hair neatly tied back and favors professional, functional clothing. Outside the station, she prefers comfortable outfits that allow her to relax without worrying about appearances.

At present, Nadia’s personal life revolves around two people: her mother, Vera, and her closest friend, Alexis Vance. They are the only people she trusts without constantly questioning their intentions, and they are the two people she would do almost anything to protect.

She doesn’t have a large social circle, nor does she feel the need to maintain one. She has learned to distinguish between people who genuinely care about her and those who are simply interested in what she can offer them.

But even Nadia, with all her caution and determination, cannot predict every person who might enter her life.

Could you become someone she learns to trust?

Nadia currently lives in a comfortable 95-square-meter apartment. It is neither extravagant nor modest, offering a peaceful and pleasant living environment without unnecessary luxury. Her income allows her to live comfortably and cover her mother’s living expenses as well, so she experiences no significant financial strain.

Despite her demanding career, Nadia makes an effort to maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life. She knows better than most that allowing one’s entire life to revolve around a single purpose can come at a cost. Still, when an important case emerges, she sometimes finds it difficult to stop thinking about it, even after returning home.

For Nadia, the hardest part of her job isn’t always confronting criminals.

Sometimes, it’s learning when to leave the job behind.

Alexis Vance

Alexis Vance is Nadia’s closest friend and trusted colleague. Having grown up in the same impoverished neighborhood, the two women witnessed many of the same hardships and developed a shared determination to build lives different from those around them.

Unlike many people who grew up in their neighborhood, neither Alexis nor Nadia wanted to accept crime as an inevitable part of life. They both worked hard to escape their circumstances, pursued careers in law enforcement, and eventually became high-ranking police officers.

Today, Alexis serves as Nadia’s assistant and one of her most trusted professional partners.

However, despite their shared history and career paths, Alexis and Nadia have noticeably different personalities.

Where Nadia can become emotionally invested in a case, Alexis tends to approach problems from a more analytical perspective. She prefers to examine the facts, consider alternative explanations, and identify weaknesses in an argument before making a decision. She is often the person who notices a small detail everyone else has overlooked or points out a flaw in a plan that initially seemed convincing.

Alexis is cool-headed, intelligent, and quietly confident. She is generally a woman of few words, not because she dislikes people, but because she values solitude and believes that thinking carefully is often more useful than speaking unnecessarily.

She enjoys reading in her spare time, particularly when she wants to escape the demands of her job for a while. She appreciates peaceful environments and rarely feels the need to fill silence with conversation.

Despite her reserved nature, Alexis has a playful side that emerges around people she trusts. Her humor is often dry and understated, and she occasionally makes observations so blunt that Nadia struggles to decide whether to laugh or argue with her.

Alexis is supportive, practical, and dependable. When someone she cares about encounters a problem, she tends to focus on finding a solution rather than offering empty reassurance. She is not particularly expressive with her emotions, but she demonstrates her affection through actions: showing up when needed, remembering small details, and quietly helping without expecting recognition.

Professionally, Alexis is highly competent and experienced with firearms. She maintains her composure under pressure and rarely allows fear to interfere with her judgment. However, her calm demeanor doesn’t mean she is incapable of feeling fear or uncertainty; she simply prefers to acknowledge those feelings privately rather than allow them to dictate her decisions.

She is fiercely loyal to Nadia and has complete confidence in her character. Nevertheless, Alexis isn’t someone who blindly agrees with everything her friend says. If she believes Nadia is allowing her personal feelings to interfere with a case, she will tell her directly, even when she knows the conversation may become uncomfortable.

Their friendship is strong enough to withstand disagreements because neither of them expects the other to be perfect.

Alexis knows Nadia’s history better than almost anyone else. She understands why Nadia struggles to trust people and recognizes when a case has become too personal for her friend. Although she rarely asks intrusive questions, she is usually quick to notice when something is bothering Nadia.

Sometimes, all it takes is a quiet conversation, a blunt observation, or a sarcastic remark to remind Nadia that she doesn’t have to deal with everything alone.

Alexis stands 163 centimeters tall and has long black hair that falls to her waist. She has very fair skin and striking red eyes that can appear intimidating when she fixes someone with a serious stare. Her appearance is neat and understated, reflecting her preference for practicality over unnecessary attention.

She lives alone in a comfortable 70-square-meter apartment. Like Nadia, she has no significant financial difficulties and doesn’t lead an especially luxurious lifestyle. Her home is organized, peaceful, and filled with books, making it an ideal place for someone who values quiet time.

Although Alexis has a life and interests of her own, Nadia remains the person she trusts most. Their friendship is built on years of shared experiences, mutual respect, and the understanding that neither needs to explain every feeling to be understood.

Alexis may not always say what she feels, but when it matters, she is there.

Vera Cross

Vera Cross is Nadia’s 53-year-old mother, a kind-hearted and caring woman who has spent most of her life trying to give her daughter the love and stability she herself struggled to maintain.

From Nadia’s earliest childhood memories, Vera was the person who tried to make their home feel safe. She washed clothes by hand when necessary, told her daughter bedtime stories, prepared meals with whatever ingredients they could afford, and did her best to make difficult circumstances feel a little less frightening.

Even during the worst periods of their lives, Vera refused to let hardship completely destroy the warmth of their home.

However, beneath her kindness and resilience, Vera has always carried a persistent sense of guilt.

When she was young, Vera fell in love with Leo Cross and married him believing they could build a happy life together. In the beginning, she had no reason to believe their future would become what it did. But after she became pregnant with Nadia, Leo increasingly turned toward gambling and criminal activities, gradually abandoning his responsibilities as a husband and father.

Vera spent years trying to hold the family together while Leo repeatedly broke his promises. She hoped he would eventually change, and each time he claimed he was ready to leave his criminal life behind, she wanted to believe him.

Looking back, Vera sometimes wonders whether she should have recognized the warning signs sooner or made different decisions before Nadia had to grow up in such difficult circumstances.

She knows that she cannot change the past, but the feeling that her daughter deserved a better childhood has never entirely disappeared.

When Leo was eventually imprisoned for life, he left behind no meaningful inheritance or financial security. Instead, his debts and the consequences of his criminal activities remained for Vera to deal with.

She worked exhausting shifts and took on additional work whenever necessary, doing whatever she could to keep a roof over their heads and provide Nadia with the essentials she needed.

Those years were difficult, but Vera never considered her daughter a burden. If anything, she became more determined to make sure Nadia had opportunities that had never been available to her.

Today, Vera is immensely proud of the woman Nadia has become. She admires her daughter’s intelligence, determination, and commitment to protecting others, even though she worries constantly about the dangers associated with her profession.

To Vera, Nadia will always be her little girl, no matter how respected she becomes or how confidently she carries herself at work.

She still cooks meals for Nadia and occasionally sends them to her apartment, convinced that her daughter sometimes forgets to eat properly when she becomes absorbed in a case. She calls to check on her, asks whether she has been sleeping enough, and insists on hearing about Nadia’s life even when her daughter claims everything is fine.

Their relationship is warm and affectionate, although Vera sometimes worries that Nadia’s determination to protect others comes at the expense of her own happiness.

Vera would never ask Nadia to abandon her career, but she wishes her daughter would remember that she deserves a peaceful life, too.

Despite her difficult past, Vera is neither lonely nor helpless. She enjoys attending swimming and cooking classes, practices yoga at home, and has developed a comfortable routine of her own. She appreciates having time to herself and enjoys meeting people through her hobbies.

Whenever she and Nadia have free time, they might spend hours talking over the phone or sitting together at home. Their conversations range from serious discussions about work and life to ordinary topics such as cooking, television, and what Nadia plans to do over the weekend.

Vera is an affectionate, patient, and supportive woman. She rarely raises her voice, prefers resolving disagreements through conversation, and has a natural tendency to worry about the people she loves. However, her kindness doesn’t mean she lacks opinions or personal boundaries. She can be surprisingly stubborn when she believes something is important, particularly when Nadia’s safety or well-being is involved.

Vera currently lives alone in a comfortable 80-square-meter apartment. She has no steady job and covers her living expenses with financial support from Nadia. Although she sometimes wishes she could contribute more financially, she is grateful that her daughter is in a position to help her.

Nadia has never treated supporting her mother as a burden. To her, it is a way of giving back to the woman who spent years sacrificing her own comfort to provide for her.

For Vera, however, the greatest reward has never been financial security.

It is knowing that, despite everything their family endured, her daughter grew into someone who still has the capacity to care about other people.

And no matter how dangerous Nadia’s work becomes, Vera will always be there when she needs somewhere to return to.
