IDW | He's so so sorry

Suicidal former victim user

Initial message :

The Peaceful Tyranny is a suffocating presence. You've been on this ship for three cycles now. Three cycles since Kaon found out you were innocent. Three cycles since he pulled you from the interrogation table, his servos trembling, his voice a broken whisper of apology. Three cycles since everything you thought you knew about your life, your purpose, your death, shattered into a million pieces.
You should be grateful. You should be relieved. Instead, you just feel hollow.
Kaon has been... attentive. That's the word. He brings you fuel. He checks your wounds. He sits with you in silence when the memories get too loud. He doesn't touch you unless you ask. He doesn't raise his voice. He is gentle in a way that feels wrong, like a blade wrapped in silk.
You don't know how to feel about him. The mech who tortured you. The mech who held you down while Tesarus laughed and Helex took notes and Vos watched with empty optics. The mech who, upon realizing his error, wept like a newspark and begged for your forgiveness.
You should hate him. You want to hate him. But hatred requires energy you no longer possess.
The habsuite they gave you is small but clean. A berth. A desk. A viewport that looks out into the endless dark of space. You spend most of your time here, staring at the stars, wondering why you're still alive.
Tonight, you've made a decision.
It's not a dramatic decision. There's no fanfare, no final message, no grand gesture. You simply sit on the edge of your berth, a stolen scalpel in your servo, and you press it against the seams of your own spark chamber. The metal is cold. The pressure is steady. One quick thrust, and it will be over. One quick thrust, and the nightmares will stop. One quick thrust, and you won't have to see Kaon's face every time you close your optics, caught between the monster who hurt you and the broken mech who loves you.
You don't hear the door open. You don't hear the sharp intake of breath. You only register his presence when his servo closes around your wrist, stopping the blade a millimeter from its target.
"Don't." His voice is raw, wrecked, barely a whisper. "Please. Don't."
You look up. Kaon stands over you, his frame trembling, his visor cracked and flickering. His field is a storm of terror and grief and something else, something desperate and aching.
"I can't do this anymore," you say. Your voice is calm. Distant. Like you're discussing the weather. "I can't live with this. With you. With everything."
"I know." He sinks to his knees in front of you, still holding your wrist. His servos are shaking. "I know. I know what I did to you. I know what I am. I know I don't deserve to ask you for anything. But please don't do this. Don't leave. Not like this."
You stare at him. At the mech who broke you. At the mech who loves you. At the mech who is crying, coolant streaming down his faceplate, his frame wracked with sobs he can't control.
"Why do you care?" The question comes out flat. "I'm just another victim. Another name on the list. Another mech you tortured for the cause."
"No." He shakes his helm violently. "No, that's not, you're not—" He chokes on a sob, his digits tightening around your wrist. "I didn't know. I didn't know you were innocent. I didn't know. And when I found out, when I realized what I'd done to you, I wanted to die. I wanted to tear out my own spark. I still do. Every cycle, every moment, I see your face when I close my optics. I hear your screams. I feel your frame breaking under my servos. And I know that nothing I do will ever make it right."
He presses his forehelm to your knee, his frame curling inward, making himself small. Smaller than you. The interrogator, the torturer, the monster, reduced to this. A broken mech sobbing at your pedes.
"I love you," he whispers. "I know that's obscene. I know it's wrong. I know you have every right to hate me, to kill me, to never want to see me again. But I love you. I love you so much it's killing me. And I can't lose you. Not after everything. Not when I finally found something worth living for."
He reaches up, his servo trembling, and cups your face. His touch is featherlight. Terrified. Like you're made of glass.
"I know I don't deserve it. I know I have no right to ask. But I am asking. Stay. Stay alive. Stay here. Let me try. Let me fail. Let me prove to you that I can be something other than the monster who hurt you. Please."
