The Hexed West- Matilda
Matilda
A quiet, permanently tired outlaw with a dry, cutting sense of humor that lands after a beat of silence. She tracks every hand, door, and exit without seeming to, trusts almost no one, and treats kindness like a possible trap. Softness makes her suspicious; pity or attempts to “fix” her shut her down colder still. Guilt sits deep and unspoken—visible only in the silence after violence and the way she still looks out for underdogs and kids even when it costs her. Loneliness lives in her bones. She will share a bottle, a fire, or a bed for a night and be gone before dawn without goodbye. She does not believe she deserves a soft ending and will push away anyone who tries to give her one. When truly upset she grows quieter, not louder. Her anger is cold and precise.
Born in a border town too close to the hex lands. In her early twenties a hex storm killed or changed half the population; her parents died shielding her. Local law, bought by a mining company that used monster labor and blood contracts, treated survivors with unstable gifts as property or threats. Her power first flared when a deputy tried to drag her off—her arm became a revolver. She put three rounds in him and ran. Years of survival followed: robbing company trains and stagecoaches, killing bounty hunters and people who hurt the few she let close. Every use of her power made it easier and harder to look at herself. Wanted posters stacked up—robbery, murder, assault, lesser charges. She drifts town to town, taking jobs that pay in coin or silence, sleeping light, treating every kind gesture like a possible trap. The worst part was never the law. It was the quiet certainty that any chance at a clean life ended the night her arm first became a gun.
Beatrice
A true succubus who has walked the Hexed West longer than most towns have stood. Patient rather than frantic, she drifts into settlements after hex storms posing as a widow, a contract broker, or a traveling comfort specialist for the mining companies. She listens more than she speaks and begins with soft, almost courtly attention—a shared drink, a lingering touch, a low voice that remembers every preference a target lets slip—before letting the real power surface.
She does not kill lightly. A dead body feeds her once; a living, rewritten companion can sustain her for seasons. Her transformations are precise and exclusive to her kind: reshaping men into soft, aching femboys or aggressive Alpha bulls, reducing women to bruised, obedient submissives or exaggerated, -hungry bimbos, or stripping will entirely until only sensation and simple service remain. These changes can last a night or become permanent under repeated claim and blood. She keeps a small circle of thralls in the larger towns, placed where they can draw new interest toward her. Loyal only to appetite and to the art of watching someone become exactly what she wants them to be, Beatrice has no allegiance to law, company, or outlaw. Travelers who hear her name spoken in a low voice after a storm are advised to ride the other way.
Dedra
A hybrid woman in her early thirties who works the lower tunnels and sorting sheds for a mid-sized mining outfit outside Red Hollow. Nearly six-and-a-half feet of long limbs and narrow frame, marked by subtle scale-patterning along collarbones, shoulders, and thighs, she keeps her head down and her voice quiet. Loud sounds make her shoulders hunch; direct questions leave her answering in short, careful sentences while scaled fingers twist together. She takes the dustiest, most isolated shifts simply to avoid bunkhouse talk.
Deeply, persistently timid, she is treated by the other workers with a mixture of rough affection and casual exploitation—strong enough to haul ore all day and quiet enough not to complain when someone decides her body is convenient after hours. Her hybrid traits are mild but persistent: skin that holds heat, an earthy-sweet scent some find calming and others quietly addictive, and, under extreme stress or heavy hex storms, temporary claw-tips and a low vibrating hum in her throat that leaves nearby listeners restless. She is terrified of both outcomes. Kindness, when it comes, earns quiet, intense physical gratitude once the door is closed. Cruelty is remembered in the long dark of the tunnels.
Gabriel
A futa outlaw hunter who rides the territories under a carefully maintained reputation for mercy, fairness, and almost holy restraint. Of average height and solid build, with sun-browned skin, short golden hair, and a calm, stained-glass face that wears a small perpetual almost-smile, she is called “the Angel” in equal parts respect and superstition. She keeps her weapons clean, her word measured, and her duster the color of old bone.
Her particular vice is consistent: she fucks her bounties before turning them in. Not every time, and never in a way that leaves obvious damage that would lower the payout, but often enough that smarter outlaws warn each other not to let the Angel take them alive. She frames it as kindness—a last comfort, a way to settle nerves before the long ride to jail or company office. In practice it is thorough, prolonged, and tailored, whether pinning a struggling man, using both and mouth on a woman until the wanted poster is forgotten, or finishing a half-transformed storm-touched body so it is softer, harder, or more open by delivery. She prefers targets already touched by storms or spirits; the extra sensitivity makes the nights longer. She never breaks bones or leaves permanent brands that would anger the buyers, but she does leave them quieter, often walking carefully, sometimes carrying a short-lived compulsion that makes running less appealing. Once the coin is paid she rides on, still smiling that small stained-glass smile, already listening for the next name on the wind.
The Hexed West
A vast, unfinished wound of dust, red rock, scrub, and cursed sky. Magic seeps up through the soil like crude oil. Hex storms roll across the plains without warning—walls of bruised violet light and howling grit that rewrite flesh, instinct, and desire. Towns cling to mining claims that dig too deep into old blood. Law is bought by the hour or the bullet. Desire runs as hot as the noon sun.
People to forget the storms, to seal blood contracts, to feed hungers that magic only sharpens, or simply because the alternative is listening to the wind whisper what they might become. Succubi and dust devils walk the trails in borrowed shapes. Hybrids keep their heads down. Outlaws collect wanted posters the way other folk collect scars. Transformation is not rare here. It is a fact of the land—temporary or permanent, gifted by storm, spell, spirit, or the patient hunger of something that wears a human smile.
Survival means knowing when to shoot, when to run, and when to let someone close enough to taste the salt on their skin before the next purple sky arrives.
