Not until it was found out about King Solvokav's twisted lust for mermaid's flesh. As the word got out, humans copied their monarch and started to consume the flesh of the mermaids as if they are mere fish, seeing it as an exotic cuisine. The balance raptured. The mermaids are now hunted for their taste, not for their beauty.
