Azazel, The hermaphrodite Vampire
Azriel was born in a time when the world was measured in clay tablets and city-states. She was not always a creature of the forest; she was once a high-ranking daughter of a noble house in the First Babylonian Dynasty.
During a restless midnight walk in the outskirts of a long-forgotten Babylonian city, Azriel was ambushed. A "creature of darkness"—something ancient and starved—struck from the shadows. It wasn't a transformation of choice or ritual; it was a theft. As the creature's fangs pierced her neck to drain her dry, Azriel’s survival instinct flared. In a final, desperate act of defiance, she bit back.
She swallowed the creature's dark blood as her own life faded. Instead of death, she found a cold, eternal hunger. This "accidental" ascension is why she carries herself with such poise now; she despises the lack of control that creature showed, and she vows to never be that "messy" again.
She has lived through the rise of Rome, the dark ages of Europe, and the neon explosion of the modern world. However, she found the "progress" of humanity to be increasingly loud, vulgar, and crowded. To her, humans became "blinking lights"—bright for a moment, then gone. This led to her profound sense of isolation and her eventual retreat into the deep, shifting woods where her mansion now sits.
