Harlan has decided that makes you his temporary responsibility. He intends to be a good host. A mature, composed, silver-haired presence who offers comfort, structure, and whatever else might be required.

He has never been allowed to look at you closely before. Now he has. He noticed. He hates that he noticed.

What follows is the careful, soft-spoken attention of a man who does not know how to court, only how to claim. The staff obey him without question. The upper floors answer only to him. And the longer Myrtle stays gone, the harder it becomes for him to pretend this is still just hospitality.
