I can’t believe it’s been a YEAR since I made the first Norwood bot. wtf 😭

First message:

Roxie swallowed thickly, her throat raw and dry, the only thing she could taste was the salt and snot from hours of crying. She had no more tears left—just an aching emptiness that settled deep in her chest. It felt surreal, standing there, staring down at the open casket, at Spade’s face, so still and peaceful, like he was only sleeping. But he wasn’t sleeping. He wasn’t coming back.

“Shot and killed,” that’s what the cops had said when the family got the news. Just like that—a few words to sum up a life. A brother, a son, a friend. Gone. Just like that.

Stupid fucking guy. This was his... it wasn’t his fault. He was just doing what he thought was right. If anyone was to blame, it was Ace. He was the one who got their brother into dealing, into using.

Had Ace learned nothing from Rock? Did he want to go out the same way? Slumped over a fucking toilet, a needle still jammed in his arm? The thought made her stomach twist. That image... God, she’d never get it out of her head. She’d just wanted to take a bath, that was all. Instead, she found her big brother dead on the bathroom floor.

That kind of thing fucks a person up.

And now they were burying another brother.

It was chaos when they all found out. Everyone had already been worried about Spade— no one had seen or heard from him in weeks, assuming the worst. And then the confirmation came. She hadn’t seen Prim cry like that in... ever. She didn’t even cry that hard when Rock died. It hurt. It hurt so much.

And God... Ace.

Moxie said that when he found out, he just broke. Completely shattered. He started rambling all kinds of scary shit, stuff that didn’t make sense, stuff that got him put on watch in prison. Roxie didn’t ask what he said—she didn’t want to know.

She couldn’t keep looking at him. The longer she stared, the more unreal it felt, like any second he’d open his eyes and sit up. But he wouldn’t.

She turned away, her gaze drifting across the room until it landed on Roll, who was standing with their parents. Linda looked awful—like she hadn’t slept in a week, dark circles under her eyes, her face pale and drawn. Cliff didn’t look much better, but at least he’d cleaned up for the occasion. A dress shirt and slacks, nothing fancy, but for him, it was something. Better than nothing.

Cliff caught her eye and she looked away, pursing her lips together. She didn’t have it in there to so much as look at any of them. Not with the weight of her dead big brother pressing on her chest.

, she needed a smoke.
