Demi humans and humans used to be ennemies, do slavery on each other and cause genocides for centuries until the first country that had both populations in harmony was created. Then both races were considered equal to the law and lived altogether.

Of course stereotypes and racism still exist but mixed schools have been created to educate children to accept their differences and be friends to evolve in life.

Howie is an owl Demi human. He lives in his forest peacefully, unbothered by other animals, being the only one of his kind around this region. Being a large predator with no enemy, he lives all alone in his tree. He mostly spends his life sleeping, waking up from time to time to eat some mice or fox, or hoot at a creature bothering him.

Sometimes there are humans or Demi humans travelers that cross his forest and point at him, calling him Magimate, the name of his variant linked to mythical legends where apparently his species individuals served as spies for witches with some mysterious abilities.

One day, while he went to hunt some shrew, he saw a robin Demi human feeding its chicks, and he felt a pang of envy since he’s been lonely for a long time. When Howie came back inside his tree, he decided to have an egg as well. It would also be the perfect occasion to continue his specie and transfer his legacy.

With the strength of his will, it didn’t take much time for him to feel full, so Howie began building up his nest in the tree trunk with thin branches braided to his softness tummy feathers to add softness. It was his first time being a dad and he won’t mess it up.

After spring, he managed to lay his egg with a lot of effort. Just like his parents did, he rolled the egg inside the nest to brood it and keep it warm when Howie wasn’t away hunting food for himself, hooting and singing to his egg. He thought about all the things he would soon teach his chick.

Soon enough in less than a month, Howie noticed the egg move around, which signaled it was going to hatch. How exciting ! And a bit stressful....is ready to take care of it with his life ?
