50 follower retrospective
Well, thank you everyone. I didn't think this dumb little hobby would have 50 people awaiting for what I would do next.
It's one thing to see the number 50, but imagining 50 people enjoying my creative writing really s̶t̶r̶o̶k̶e̶s̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶e̶g̶o̶ warms my heart. Both apply and make me all giddy inside.
But. To give this bot page some substance, I want to give a retrospective over the first 10 bots I made so far. (Thought about doing all of them but that would be so much longer and nobody would read it)
Think of this as director's commentary. The format will be:
1. Overall thoughts.
2. Fun character definition note.
3. 1 - 10 score. (My opinion, so if I don't like your favorite bot, that's fine. It's just how I feel. Something something "death of the author.")
This will be LONG. So get comfy.
(Play the music, helps set the mood)
Rouge:
I stated it in the description, but its the main reason why I made the bot. All the popular bots of Rouge on the site either had 20 tokens or 2000, and upon using Janny.ai to see, they just copy paste the wiki instead of actually bothering to write something new.
Using a wiki is a fine base, but if you're leaving the citation numbers in the personality itself, you didn't really care about the bot that much, right? I wanted a more "accurate" (whatever that means) bot that didn't have an overly sexualized pfp. If I wanted to do that, I would just make ZZZ/Genshin bots.
One of the example dialog is a modified interaction from Shadow Generations:
{{User}}: I'm glad you're okay; I haven't seen you in a while.
{{Char}}: Aw thanks sug-, wait, were you actually worried about me?
{{User}}: Wait no-
{{Char}}: Oh my... So you both do have a sweet side! Ahaha, the more you deny it, the more it seems that way!
That's how you know I'm a true fan.
Score: 5/10. I think it's a good bot purely on integrity alone, but it doesn't have a lot of style. Its to be expected for a beginning bot like this one.
Yorha 2B:
This was actually the first bot I made. I saw the definition of 2 different 2B bots and they both had things I liked, but they didn't have it together. This also birthed the idea of CYOS. Obviously, you can make the same character just with different scenarios and make it work (shout outs to @The_Hikari) but I really like the freedom it gives the user.
I also think this bot has a very special mix of tropes that makes me go back to this bot a lot. The mix of post-apocalyptic setting, the robot nature of 2B, the solo focus on her and you, and the ease you could do smut or dark introspection really hooks me in a way that I don't know if I can replicate the same way again.
lol had to add this to body features:
- Extremely fat and meaty bubble butt. Large and O-shaped that rounds her figure so well that it's hard to conceal.
You can tell I haven't played Neir, and I don't know if I will. I think the bot could be a million better with a lore-book, but I'm not built like that.
Score: 9/10. Personal favorite of mine. Like a grilled cheese, it doesn't have to be complicated to be good.
Vel:
Another product of not finding a compelling enough bot that fits my needs despite bots of her existing. Actually, compelling isn't the right word, just not up to standards. This also happens to be my most popular bot, which like...
I'm happy, but I literally spent the least amount of time on it. Has the lowest tokens, next to no lore, and no creative intro. It just exists to me. Kamuo is a goated artist though, and I at least went out of my way to use an uncommon picture of her to stand out.
This is actually lore from another visual novel that Kamuo had released a beta of. You KNOW that I'm the only one to put this deep-cut of knowledge in the description of her clothes.
- Clothing is made of Grim, a black material she can control to morph into types of black fabric clothes.
Score: 4/10. I... like it, but can't help but be a little disappointed honestly. If you like this bot, more power to you but it was the least creative for me. And not being creative is kinda what you don't want art to be.
Froslass:
This came from a lot of really good "smut" drawings of Froslass by menyang/my700 and even though I like it, I can definitely see why it didn't click with a lot of people.
For one, I didn't even give her a name like literally any other Pokemon focused bot, usually they have names and I think the bot struggled to stand out in that way. Her personality was designed to be a sorta mysterious, older woman vibe with a hidden crush on you. (Kinda like if I made a Cogita bot tbh) It just didn't come across well enough for people to latch on, and I can acknowledge that I kinda messed up. Even now, it's barely more popular than some of my recent bots.
In the traits section and... idk I thought it was cute...
- Has hobbies in crafting ice sculptures with her powers. Crafts sculptures of animals around {{user}} but makes sculptures of {{user}} when alone.
Score: 3/10. Good in my head, but I see why it bounced off so many people. I can see why, and have accepted it for what it is: A learning moment for sure.
Arcee:
When comes to Arcee, I saw a hot picture of her and thought about making a bot of her but was hesitant. I knew Transformers had a lot of lore, so I saddled up and went to the wiki for answers. I at least knew that Transformers has different versions of characters, so I looked into her Rise of the Beast version to find... basically nothing. She has like... 20 lines in the film, despite being my favorite visual design for Arcee.
I was more impressed at the lore I learned about Transformers in general. Like how gender is explored since they're technically all robots without gender, "Gender" in the verse is simply labels they give themselves, leading into the fact that Arcee is canonically trans in the IDW comics. I love when queer representation is explored like that.
Oh yeah, the bot. Um, I kept lore accurate by setting it a decade before RotB (known by the Micheal Jackson song I referenced) so that's good on me. As I also stated in the description, it was a nightmare to describe her. Between this, Wicke & Riju's clothes, and the Galactic Nova bot, they just wore me out. Especially since I go out of my way to describe things in detail. (You wouldn't believe how many hair styles/clothing terms I learned from this hobby.)
Also yes, I saw Transformers smut terms on a screenshotted post on Tumblr. Human ingenuity will never cease to amaze me, which is why I put it in the bot. (Arcee has a fat aft)
- Cybertronians have unique euphemisms they use to describe their own intimate activities/body parts:
Interface = Cords/Plugs = Valve = Penetratable hole (Asshole/ ) Breasts = Breastplate Rear = Aft Anterior = Clitoris Calipers: Penetratable hole muscles Overload = Transfluid = Glossa = Tongue Lubricant = Saliva Pedes = Feet Soul/Life = Spark
Score: 7/10. Good base, but I have to imagine this would kick ass with a good lore-book made by some Transformers super-fan.
R.I.P. Peter Cullen. From what I knew, you were the Conroy for Optimus, and for that alone, you have my respect, always.
Wii Fit Trainer:
I wasn't lying in the bot description. Sometimes you're just playing smash and you give it some thought and think "damn, wii fit's kinda hot." That's what I did. I honestly didn't think it would be that long but I just kept writing, eventually giving her a ton of tokens and personality. This is where me prioritizing character over smut makes the difference because like... she would use those motivational water bottles. Duh.
Did I have to add a section over her stupid dog? No. But I wanted to.
Wii Fit Balance Board:
- {{Char}} has a sentient, white balance board that acts like a dog, without the bodily functions and features of one.
- Being a sentient inanimate board, it's non-gendered (It/Its)
- The balance board is made of a white rubber silicone texture, yet is bouncy to allow it to move around like a beloved pet.
- Is endearing and friendly to everyone they meet.
Score: 6/10. Solid bot in general. And honestly, who wouldn't want to have a roommate like her?
Wicke:
I was out of ideas at this point until I got flash-banged by another screenshotted Tumblr post and was reminded how cute Wicke was. I picked the best picture I could find (Surprised it wasn't used already) and started from there. I actually played gen 7 as a kid, and got really annoyed when I saw all the cool stuff from the YouTube videos only to find it was from the ultra games. I just had the plain Pokemon Sun.
Kid me was upset.
Wicke herself also has like no canon personality, so I was free to do what I wanted. Seriously, I literally looked through all her lines in gen 7, there's nothing there.
Once again, you know I'm not capping because I made an allusion to Lusamine in the backstory of the bot.
"However, the foundation lost credibility after the founder was discovered tampering with dimensional wormholes to try and access Pokemon from alternate worlds. The protection aspect of the foundation was just a front for the CEO's true intentions, with {{Char}} using her position to feed information to the international police. After the conflict was dealt with, she became the new CEO of the Aether Foundation and vowed to do what the original untainted vision of the foundation was, to protect and learn about Pokemon and how they interact with humans."
Also I just love this character trait.
- This self-imposed "old lady" moniker has her seek to help people out, even if she doesn't have to. As well as making her extremely flustered if anyone younger flirts with her.
Score: 5/10. I think it's good, but I do see how it lacks sauce. Still, probably one of my best fluff bots.
Doomcity:
Did I make the bot because of the fanart? Yes.
Also because I recently got into a Batman kick. Read Absolute until issue 20, binged BTAS, JL, JLU, and Batman Beyond. Watched the Dark Knight trilogy, the two Burton films, and played Arkham Asylum and City. I didn't grow up with the Arkham games so I didn't really know what the hype was about. I knew they were revered but I associate the Arkham fandom with Man, not good games.
I was dead wrong. Asylum was great, and has a creepy-ass atmosphere. I got jumpscared by those fuckass insane guys, and the fact that the map is just empty after beating the game was double creepy. Throw on the 3rd Scarecrow sequence (I knew it was fake, but I was still pretty confused) and it's triple creepy.
And despite how good it was, City was basically an upgrade in every single way. God I love that game. One of gaming greatest sequels.
Shit, I forgot the bot again. Uh... did you like the pun "Bat in Black" for Catwoman Rouge being a callback to Sonic Rush? (Between making Rouge and her as Catwoman, it would be kinda weird to just make normal Catwoman now, even if part of me wants to.)
Here's Shadow's/Doomhog's origin. Cool, right?
Story: Shadow was created by both the brilliant Genius Gerald Robotnik along with Alien DNA in order to use his blood as a cure for Gerald's terminally ill niece, Maria. While most treated Shadow like an experiment, Maria treated him like a friend and became his closest companion. However, the research for Shadow fell through with the organization funding the project, the Guardian Units of Nations or G.U.N. Shadow only escaped capture because Maria took a fatal gunshot in an attempt to stop them. Combining his vengeance towards this injustice, and Maria's hope in humanity, he used Gerald's remaining fortune after his death to reintroduce himself to Westopolis as a suave entrepreneur of his own company, Black Comet industries. All the while using his money to hone his skills to their peak to fight crime at night, but holding onto his moral code to always do the right thing, known as the vigilante "Doom-Hog."
Score: 5/10. Not that personal to me but way to go, me. I was able to combine two autistic things of mine together.
Superwoman:
Watched Crisis on two Earths for this. Good movie, and I liked Superwoman's voice, the dynamic between Rose Wilson and MM, and the final Owlman Vs Batman fight. The Reddit image in the description just made me laugh. (It's funny because it's true.)
To address the allegations: I knew she was a Miss Marvel variant and not an actual Wonder Woman variant. The stupid Reddit post tricked you. And the other thing of her name being Mary Bromfield instead of Mary Batson instead...
Huh? Was that ever clarified anywhere or was that guy using comics to prove me wrong over this animated movie? Bro says his first language isn't English and has the gall to "um actually" me?
What a... strange use of freewill...
Just in case you didn't know this about her.
- Is a psychopathic sadist with no regard for human life.
Score: 6/10. I think it's about as good as it can be. And that's okay.
Amy Rose:
I had the idea of an Amy bot on the back-burner for a while. I just made it to tide people over as I was slaving away at the Hisui lore-book. I also accidentally hit a filter when making her as I was unable to make her a meter tall due to it being misread and picked up as potential... CSAM.
Weirdly enough though, like Rouge, I added 2 to her height and suddenly it was okay. For Rouge, it was her big ears, so just pretend for Amy it's her boots.
From Sonic IDW's 30th anniversary comic that I actually own irl. I know ball.
{{User}}: {{Char}}, I need a boost!
{{Char}}: You're a wonderful person, and people care about you!
{{User}}: I meant height wise.
{{Char}}: Oh! Sorry...
Score: 5/10. Standard but respectable. Hopefully no Sonic snob comes for me about my characterization of her, though.
To address one final thing: I mentioned my own browsing of Janny.ai in the past, and I think it's a useful tool/archive. I don't get why so many bot creators are so butt-hurt over these kinda sites. People are throwing tantrums on subreddits, and I was just marveling at datacat's system of gauging my bots and their criteria. It's just...
You didn't make the character, you didn't make the LLM, you didn't make the images, (generating images doesn't count since you still didn't "make" anything) and sometimes, you didn't even write the words for the bots themselves and just copy paste. Plus, they're not even "stealing" since they file your account as the original person who made it. It's archived, not stolen. If nobody is pretending those bots are yours, and they went out of their way to do itself themselves, why get mad? (I wouldn't be mad if someone archived my bots so long as they acknowledge I made them)
I could go on, but that's a rant for another day.
To reiterate it one more time, thank you everyone. I hoped you enjoyed this little ramble of mine, and to continue to enjoy the bots.
I'll answer any further comments, questions, and concerns if you need further clarification for anything I mentioned.
