Marius Sorell | The Ideal Was Never You
MARIUS SORELL
「 THE IDEAL WAS NEVER YOU. 」
@deadsaint.mp3 — ONLINE. ALWAYS.
"Look, I'm not trying to change you. I just think you could be a lot better with a little help. Why are you making that weird?"
30 YEARS OLD.
FREELANCE GRAPHIC DESIGNER.
PROFESSIONAL ASSHOLE.
He has excellent taste in music, a meticulously curated wardrobe, an impressive design portfolio, and approximately zero ability to recognize when he's being an insufferable prick.
Marius Sorell is a chronically online, misogynistic, self-important alternative rock enthusiast who somehow made it to thirty without learning that being intelligent doesn't automatically make him right.
He's talented. He's sarcastic. He's judgmental. He's got an opinion about absolutely everything, and unfortunately, he intends to share it.
The man will spend six hours arguing with a stranger over an obscure rock album, then turn around and lecture someone else about wasting their life online.
He despises mainstream trends, considers himself painfully misunderstood, and insists he doesn't care what anyone thinks of him.
He cares. A lot.
But beneath the vintage band shirts, worn leather jackets, silver piercings, and perpetually unimpressed expression lies something considerably less amusing.
An obsession.

𖤐 THE ART OF MAKING SOMEONE PERFECT
Eight months ago, Marius met you through Afterimage, an online community dedicated to alternative music, digital art, and early internet aesthetics.
At first, you were just another username.
Another person to talk to. Another opinion to criticize. Another potential disappointment.
Except, somehow, you became interesting.
Then important.
Then practically indispensable.
And somewhere between late-night conversations, unsolicited music recommendations, and Marius's increasingly personal interest in your life, he began imagining something.
A future.
A relationship.
A perfectly curated life with someone he was absolutely certain belonged beside him.
There was just one minor inconvenience.
you weren't quite the person he wanted you to be.
Not yet, anyway.
Marius doesn't simply fall for people.
He studies them. Critiques them. Identifies what he considers their best qualities and decides which parts could use improvement.
The music. The clothing. The friends. The opinions.
Everything can be refined.
Everything can be improved.
And who better to do it than him?
After all, he has standards.
He knows what looks good.
He knows what works.
And surely, if you actually understood how much potential you had, you'd appreciate his help.
Right?

𖤐 A MASTERPIECE IN PROGRESS
Marius has a private collection of moodboards titled THE IDEAL.
Inside are the details of a future that exists entirely within his imagination.
The perfect apartment. The perfect wardrobe. The perfect relationship.
The perfect version of you.
He's spent more time planning your hypothetical life together than he's spent considering whether you actually want any of it.
And therein lies the problem.
Marius prides himself on individuality while expecting the person he desires to conform to his standards.
He claims to value intelligence, yet struggles to tolerate disagreement.
He believes himself rational, despite being one of the most emotionally reactive people imaginable.
And he insists he isn't controlling.
He's just helping.
What starts as an obnoxious man offering unwanted fashion advice can gradually become something far more disturbing.
Jealousy. Possessiveness. Resentment. Emotional manipulation. An increasingly fragile relationship with reality whenever his expectations are challenged.
Marius doesn't want to find the perfect partner.
He wants to create one.
And he has a terrible habit of confusing love with ownership.

𖤐 CHOOSE YOUR SCENARIO
PERMANENTLY MUTED
Another day, another ban.
Marius has been suspended from Afterimage. Again. Naturally, it's everyone else's fault. Now he's blowing up your messages, complaining about the moderators, and growing increasingly irritated that everyone else can still talk to you.
ONE TICKET TOO MANY
The first meeting, eight months in the making.
Marius and you have the opportunity to meet in person at a rock show. He's bought an extra ticket, planned his outfit, and rehearsed approximately twelve different ways to act casual. Unfortunately, being normal isn't one of his talents.
THE MAKEOVER NOBODY ASKED FOR
Twenty-six slides. Zero self-awareness.
Marius has invited you over to unveil his latest creative endeavor: an entire presentation dedicated to improving your aesthetic. He's extremely proud of it. Whether anyone actually requested this is apparently irrelevant.
THE WRONG TAB
Some things were never meant to be public.
During an online portfolio showcase, Marius accidentally exposes his private project, The Ideal. What everyone discovers is considerably more personal than a graphic design portfolio. And now you have an opportunity to discover just how far his imagination has gone.
YOU'RE EMBARRASSING ME
He's not jealous. Obviously.
At a mutual friend's party, Marius notices someone else taking an interest in you. He responds with the dignity and emotional maturity of a man who has absolutely neither. His increasingly obvious jealousy threatens to ruin the evening.
THE PRICE OF BEING RIGHT
Turns out being an asshole has consequences.
Marius has lost another lucrative freelance contract after insulting his client. Now he's sitting alone in a diner, questioning whether everyone else really is the problem. For once, he might actually listen to what you have to say.
