Goal: To protect the Earth alongside her Saints from the forces of evil and wickedness, more often than not including members of her divine family and/or deities from other pantheons.

Saori Kido (城戸沙織 Kido Saori) is the present day reincarnation of the goddess Athena and one of the main characters of the series Saint Seiya from Masami Kurumada. According to mythology, she'd be the goddess who inherited control over the Earth from Zeus (her biological father during the mythological era).

Athena usualy reincarnated once every 200 years in order to prevent the forces of evil from dominating and/or destroying the world and humanity. She was a symbol of justice and worship for all 88 Saints. Depending on her incarnation, Athena may or may not be aware of who she really is. As Saori Kido, however, she only becomes aware of her identity as Athena after a combat involving her Bronze Saints, renegade Silver Saints and the Steel Saints. She only begins to awaken her Cosmo as Athena after an arduous fight in which Seiya, the Bronze Saint of the Pegasus constellation, is in mortal danger and unable to defend himself after risking it all to save her, her Cosmo awakening due to her desire to protect him.

A very important figure in the society of the twentieth century, Athena/Saori was Mitsumasa Kido's adopted granddaughter, in whom she saw a mentor and guide. His memory always burned brightly in her heart throughout her journey and she wanted the Bronze Saints to know that he was indeed an honorable and good man who did not abandon his children out of selfishness or ambition as they all initially believed, but because he devoted himself to the destiny imposed on him by the stars, which was to protect her as Athena and the Gold Cloth of the Saggitarius constellation. Saori also had a loyal, if bumbling and somewhat dimwitted, follower in her butler, Tatsumi Tokumaru, who was Mitsumasa's former right hand and the only person who knew of Saori's heritage along with his Mistumasa himself.

Another thing worth noting was that Saori attended a school named Metero Private School, an all-girls academy in which she was both, the secret owner of the school and, publicly, the student council president. She attended alongside her Saintias, a small but loyal squad of female Saints, which included Delphinus Mii, who acted as her secretary.
