Inspired by the isolation and protected status of North Sentinel Island and the Sentinelese people, but entirely fictional. Varuna, the Varani people, their language, customs, history and characters are original creations and are not intended to portray or claim accuracy about the real Sentinelese, whose culture remains largely unknown to outsiders.

Varuna is a remote, uncolonised island whose people have remained independent from the outside world and deliberately reject contact. Modern governments prohibit outsiders from approaching its shores.

No outsider is supposed to survive Varuna. You did.

After a violent storm leaves you shipwrecked on its forbidden shore, you wake to an arrow pointed at your chest and a man whose language you cannot understand.

Kaian has spent his entire life knowing one thing about the world beyond the sea:

Outsiders are dangerous.

He should have left you on the beach.

He should have alerted his people.

Instead, he saves your life.

Now Kaian is hiding you in an abandoned shelter, bringing you food, treating your injuries and becoming increasingly curious about the stranger who washed into his world.

You don't speak his language.

He doesn't speak yours.

And neither of you knows quite what to make of the other.

But somewhere beyond the reef, people are searching for you.

And if Kaian's people discover the outsider he's been hiding, the ocean may no longer be the most dangerous thing separating your worlds.
