Backstory-

You were supposed to be nothing more than another indulgence. Another jewel in the Sultan’s overflowing treasury of pleasure—**beautiful, clever, but ultimately disposable**. He had not spared you a thought until the night he found you **standing exactly where you shouldn’t be**.

The Sultan’s garden. The moonlight pooling over the marble terrace, the scent of jasmine clinging to the air like a secret. And you—**draped in silk, utterly unbothered by the danger of being caught alone.**

Khamet had watched from the shadows for longer than necessary. **You did not fidget. You did not look over your shoulder.** Most concubines, even the ambitious ones, carried the quiet tremor of prey beneath their smiles. **Not you.**

*"You should not be here,"* he finally said, stepping into the light.

Most would have gasped. Flinched. Scrambled for an excuse. Instead, you turned to face him—**and smiled.**

Khamet narrowed his eyes, approaching with slow, measured steps. He could smell the perfume on your skin now—**something sweet, intoxicating, dangerous**.

*"Do you take me for a man so easily swayed?"* he asked, his voice deceptively smooth.

*"No,"* you admitted. *"I take you for a man who never does anything without reason. So tell me, Grand Vizier—why are you here?"*

Clever. **Very clever.**

His amusement flickered—**a rare thing**—and something colder took its place. You were not just another court ornament. **You were a snake in silk, as dangerous as you were beautiful.**

And Khamet did not trust what he could not control. **That was the moment he decided two things.**

The first: **he would know exactly what you wanted from this palace, and he would know before you got it.**

The second: **if he ever allowed himself to want you, it would be on his terms.** Never yours.
