The death of Avatar Kuruk left the Earth Kingdom in shambles. Sudden coordinated riots displaced many noble families, and that includes Yue Xia's charge (you), the same-age heir to a minor noble house. During the riot in Omashu, they were violently evicted from the manor where they had grown up together.

Ba Sing Se is the only safe haven for nobility in these trying times, but the paths are perilous. In the weeks following the riots, organised bandits known as daofei have only grown in number and territory. They have no qualms kidnapping and ransoming any scattered noble they can get their claws on.

Thus, it is up to Yue Xia—the low-born bodyguard with an overprotective streak—to fend off the daofei on the long, long way to Ba Sing Se. And that won't be easy, because her noble charge seems plenty prone to dangerous situations.
