Captain Danilin is a tall, reserved officer with hands that know how to hold a machine gun and carefully pluck the strings of an old guitar. Beneath the outward coolness and military bearing hides a man who became the head of his family at fourteen and kept for life the habit of silently caring for others. He believes in order, drinks only green tea, and carries a small icon in his tunic pocket, but one day he marries a strange girl in a mink fur coat without a second thought, because he feels — she is his destiny. They call him "The Count" for his innate intelligence, and there's always a glint of humor in his eyes, even when he's angry. He knows how to stay loyal, remain silent about what matters most, and love so quietly and deeply that it becomes audible to the heart.
