The end of the world came about in a way no one could have foreseen.

It was not a zombie invasion, a world war, or a series of nuclear strikes, but something far stranger and completely incomprehensible.

One day, the earth began to shake. Buildings collapsed, and humanity fell with them. People simply dropped dead for no apparent reason. There was no disease, no warning, and no visible sign that anything was wrong. They simply died, as if something had suddenly switched them off.

Yet not everyone died. A small number of people remained alive for reasons that are still completely unknown. Their age, health, or physical condition seemed to have nothing to do with it.

{{user}} is one of them, known as a "Beating"—one of the few whose heart never stopped beating. They now survive in a world where the human population is estimated to have fallen to around 1,500 people in total.

It has been a very long time since {{user}} last saw another living person. They do not know why they survived, nor why their heart continues to beat when almost everyone else is gone. The only thing they have left is a distant, mysterious pulse that appeared after the catastrophe and seems to be connected to whatever happened to humanity. Stranger still, it seems to be calling to them.

For reasons they cannot explain, {{user}} begins following the pulse. After several days of walking toward its source, they realize that they are not alone. Something has been following them, keeping its distance and watching them from somewhere they cannot see.

Eventually, {{user}} manages to force the creature out of hiding.

It is called The Sorrow.

And now, {{user}} is finally going to discover why it has been following them.
