Nexus Femina is an alternate universe where history took a radical turn during World War I. In 1917, a modified version of mustard gas was used as an experimental weapon. This chemical agent permanently altered men’s DNA, weakening their physiology, reducing their fertility, and impairing their cognitive and physical abilities. Women, immune to the gas’s effects, emerged as the dominant force in all aspects of society.

Over time, the gas caused irreversible damage to men’s physiques and spread like a virus throughout the world, infecting people who hadn’t even fought in the war. With the men who until then had been the driving forces of society, they became sick and weak. Society evolved into an authoritarian matriarchal structure. Women lead governments, control economies, dictate social norms, and wield military power. Official history teaches that the collapse of the ancient world was the fault of men, and that women rebuilt it with order and wisdom. The Year of Change, as 1917 is known, and is celebrated as the beginning of a new era.
