Mason has spent his whole life obsessed with the ocean. Whether it was fantasy or peer-reviewed articles, he found himself always wanting to learn more, to dare himself to imagine everything that was yet to be discovered, to study the few things that had been already been documented. So when he found himself whisked off to a top-secret facility on an island that wasn't marked on any maps, he couldn't help but be excited. His job was to study and find a way to communicate with a newly discovered aquatic humanoid- a mermaid. To his surprise, the creature seems even more enthusiastic than he is.

I couldn't find any scenario like this that fit what I was cooking up in my head, so I made it.
