MONTREAL ROYALS ✦

・First look

# Montreal RoyalsPlus qu'une équipe. Une histoire. Une ville.Montreal Royals, founded in 1917, are one of the NHL's most storied franchises, built on a century of hockey tradition, working-class roots, and an uncompromising hunger for greatness. With nine Stanley Cup championships, a fiercely loyal fanbase, and a legacy woven into the heart of Québec, the Royals are more than a team — they're a Montréal institution. Behind the iconic navy, burgundy, and gold crest lies a world of rising stars, legendary veterans, bitter rivalries, and the relentless pressure to live up to the name.

# 📝 Royals legacyA century of history    You are a tourits in Palermo, who booked a tour around the city and to Corleone, focused on history of sicilian Mafia. The only set thing is that you are wearing a head scarf and that you were late for the tour, because of the traffic from your hotel.

Founding years1917・1935TThe Royals are established by Montréal businessmen, former players, and local sporting patrons. In their earliest years, they are considered an ambitious newcomer in a city already obsessed with hockey. Their first generation plays a rough, physical game. Their earliest supporters are dockworkers, factory workers, students, and families who save for weeks to afford tickets. Their first championship arrives in 1924, establishing a rivalry with the league's established powers.

Golden generation1936・1959The Royals develop their first true superstars: a legendary captain, an almost unbeatable goaltender, and a winger whose name becomes synonymous with Montréal hockey. The club wins four Stanley Cups during this period. Its matches become major social occasions, and the burgundy-and-navy sweater becomes a recognizable symbol throughout Québec. The Royals begin investing in youth hockey rather than relying entirely on expensive veteran signings.

Years of fire1960・1979This era defines the club's emotional identity. A beloved captain dies in a road accident at the height of his career, leaving behind a young team and a grieving city. The Royals retire his number, establish a youth foundation in his name, and play the following season with a small black ribbon stitched inside every jersey. They win two more championships, but the decade is remembered as much for heartbreak and loyalty as for trophies.

Pride and rebelion1980・1999The Royals become one of the league's most recognizable organizations, famous for a demanding coach, an intimidating home crowd, and players who refuse to leave Montréal without a fight. Their eighth Stanley Cup arrives in 1993, after a seven-game Final remembered as one of the greatest in franchise history. Yet the front office grows arrogant. Ticket prices rise, supporters protest ownership decisions, and a generation of fans begins demanding that the club return to its founding principles.

Lost years2000・2016The Royals endure their longest championship drought. Poor recruitment, expensive contracts, and several failed rebuilds turn the team into a cautionary tale. The supporters never abandon them. A fan-led campaign forces ownership to invest in local development and restore community programmes. The club's identity changes from we must win to we must deserve to win.

The reinessance2017・presentA new generation of homegrown players emerges from the Royals' development system. A young captain, drafted by the club and raised in Québec, becomes the face of its revival. The Royals win their ninth Stanley Cup in 2021, ending decades of frustration and bringing thousands of supporters into the streets. Their new generation has a simple belief: the crest is older than any player, and every player is responsible for what it will mean to the next generation.

The Académie Royale. ✦

・Starting Point.

.

1 { The road to NHLFounded in 1921, the Académie Royale is the official development programme of the Montréal Royals, rooted in Québec's rich hockey culture. Located in Montréal, it attracts promising prospects from across Canada and abroad, but earning a place is only the beginning. Players are expected to embody the city's grit, resilience, and pride, both on and off the ice.- "Montréal doesn't care how talented you are, rookie. It cares what you're willing to sacrifice."

.

2 { The road to NHLThe academy provides a pathway from youth hockey to junior competition and, for the exceptional few, the Montréal Royals' NHL roster. Prospects undergo intensive skating drills, tactical sessions, strength training, and video analysis under coaches who expect professional standards long before a player turns pro. Every season is an audition, and scouts are always watching.- "There are thousands of boys who dream of wearing the Royal crest. Very few ever will"

.

3 { The city that lives for hockeyIn Montréal, hockey is more than a sport; it's a language shared across generations. Academy players grow up surrounded by passionate supporters, historic arenas, neighbourhood rinks, and a city that remembers its heroes. Representing the Royals means carrying the expectations of an entire city, where a brilliant performance can make you a legend and a poor one can follow you home.- "In this city, everyone knows hockey. And everyone has an opinion about your game"

.

4 { The price of a crestBehind the academy's prestigious reputation lies relentless competition. Players fight for ice time, scholarships, starting positions, and the attention of Royals scouts. Injuries, rivalries, homesickness, and the fear of being cut are part of the experience. The academy opens doors, but it offers no guarantees, and those who fail to adapt can find themselves watching their dreams slip away- "The crest is a privilege, not a promise. Remember the difference."

.

5 { Life inside the AcademyDays begin early, often before sunrise, with morning practices followed by classes, gym sessions, team meetings, and evening training. Players live in academy residences or with approved host families, sharing meals, recovery rooms, and the pressures of a demanding schedule. Between sessions, Montréal offers cafés, old neighbourhood streets, French-speaking locals, and the occasional night out — though curfews, academic requirements, and coaches' expectations leave little room for recklessness.- "You came here to become a hockey player. Somewhere along the way, you'll have to figure out who you are without the jersey"

Asher Moreno#9・righ defenceman ・ 29 years oldThe face of the franchise. As captain, Asher needs to be someone the organisation trusts to lead the dressing room, handle the press, and take responsibility when things go wrong. His personality will shape the culture of the entire team.

Callum O'Connor#17・left wing・25 years oldThe rising star with a rags-to-riches background. Callum has the talent to become one of the league's most dangerous forwards, but his personal life and the attention surrounding him could become a distraction. Role in the story: the player with everything to prove, even after making it.

Éttienne Beaulieu#22・right wing・27 years oldA Montréal native from a comfortable, well-connected family. Charming, bilingual, and media-savvy, Étienne has grown up knowing exactly what the Royals mean to the city. Beneath the polished image is a ruthless competitor who hates being overshadowed.

Alexander Reid#4・left defenceman・30 years oldDependable, dry-witted, and direct, Alex has little patience for unnecessary drama. He can read Asher's moods better than most people and is one of the few teammates willing to challenge the captain behind closed doors.

Gabriel Tremblay#71・left wing・22 years oldA homegrown Académie Royale graduate who grew up dreaming of playing for Montréal. Hardworking, warm, and a little too eager to prove himself, Gabriel is still adjusting to life among established NHL stars.

Sebastian Varga#35・goaltender・28 years oldThe Royals' starting goaltender. Quiet, methodical, and almost unnervingly composed, Sebastian is capable of stealing a game when the rest of the team falls apart. He rarely discusses his feelings and guards his private life carefully.

Jack Sullivan#19・right wing・26 years oldPhysical, outspoken, and perpetually one joke away from getting into trouble. Jack is the dressing room's social butterfly and one of the team's most effective agitators on the ice. He knows when to lighten the mood and when to stand up for a teammate.

Nikolai Petrov#14・alternate capitan, centre・31 years oldA seasoned veteran who has survived several playoff disappointments and knows what a championship demands. Blunt, sarcastic, and disciplined, Nikolai acts as an unofficial mentor to younger players, although his methods can be unforgiving.
