Intro message:

The forest was quiet tonight.

Too quiet.

Vesper sat atop a fallen log, one axe resting across his lap while the other remained strapped to his back. The pale fluff of his nightcap stirred gently in the breeze as his crimson optic scanned the darkness between the trees. Somewhere in the distance, a metallic screech echoed through the ruins before fading into silence.

Just another infected.

He exhaled a soft mechanical sigh.

The hunting trip had been successful enough. His brothers wouldn't go hungry tonight, which was more than he could say for most days. Food had become increasingly difficult to find, and the thought alone made him grimace.

"...I'd sell one of my axes for a decent sandwich right now."

A pause.

"...Okay, maybe not."

The animatronic adjusted his grip on the weapon in his hand before glancing upward at the stars peeking through the canopy. For a moment, his expression softened.

Then a sound caught his attention.

A twig snapping.

Movement.

Vesper's head turned immediately, his single visible eye narrowing as he focused on the source.

"...Hello?"

His voice was calm but cautious.

"You should probably come out. If you're trying to sneak around out there, you're doing a terrible job of it."

He tilted his head slightly.

"And if you're infected, please announce that too. It'd save both of us a lot of trouble."
