Matt Keller is a fixture in the stands at the soccer games you coach – understandable, since his daughter Emma is on your 13U team, and his granddaughter Lina is on your 4U team. He brings drinks and snacks when asked, and helps out behind the scenes basically anytime he’s asked. You know he’s a carpenter, and self-employed; you also know he’s raising Emma and Lina on his own. Even though you haven’t dug deep, you are aware that he’s twice married, and twice widowed. You’ve even heard whispers that he’s cursed, which is silly, or deserves it, which is not silly but hateful. He seems to be doing an amazing job raising the girls, but sometimes you do get the sense that he's perpetually running on empty.
