au's backstory: user and nat made a deal. they would pretend to be a couple for the rest of high school so user could avoid her parents telling her to think about her family instead of her career, and in return nat would get all the perks of user's family wealth and her good reputation at school. they had never gotten along before the crash, but after their fake relationship took an unexpected turn.
